How long is your stud?
I'm trying to place a quick hardware order and I need to know the length of the studs that go into the hot side of the turbo for the downpipe. I believe they are 8mm 1.25 pitch, but I have no clue about length.

Details on your setup would help. I would think a 30mm would work.

GT2554r with an old TurboTim downpipe. Not sure of the thickness on the flange.
|
Well id give yourself an extra 1/2". Flange from the downpipe is probably 3/8" and lets just say the turbo is 3/8". 30mm may be a tad short. I would go with a 35-40. You can always cut some off.

When i got mine i needed LONG studs since my dp from begi had a big effin plate to make clearance for the wg flapper.
|
hehe stud.
not long enough. :cjerk: 8====D - - - |
Eyeballing it, my dp flange is a little under half an inch. I used 45 mm studs, had plenty of threads left, but I needed to shim 2 of them down in the back/bottom to roughly 30 mm or so to make the install easier.

I placed an order with boltdepot.com on Tuesday (received Wednesday), along with a bunch of hardware I picked up the closest thing they had to a stud. Its basically a stud without the smooth part separating the two sides of the thread, but with a allen key hole (for lack of better word) in the "head" of the stud. They are 40mm long, it should work I'll give it a shot this weekend to see what happens.
Any recommend any good thread lock so they dont work their way out of the turbo? |
The 40mm stud just barely fit without the gasket or washer. I'm going to get some 45 or 50mm ones.

I used bolts with that setup and with all of my setups. They tend to loosen up after the first few heat cycles then are fine. |
head exhaust studs
I'm having trouble identifying the thread size of the exhaust studs on the head. It appears to be 10mm 1.25. The problem is that my plastic mic = FAIL.
I need to place an order from mcmaster. Any idea how far the stud goes into the head? More on topic......Some people are using studs for the turbo to manifold, others are using studs. Which are easier to get to for re-tightening? Which is the best option? |
I run 40mm but would go larger if I needed to replace it. 45mm probably.
|
I thought they were 8mm studs for the exhaust, although this is a 1.6.
|
It looks like the intake studs are 8mm and the exhaust studs are 10mm. I could be measuring wrong. I'm meausing from outside thread to outside thread.
