How to test my COP.. Does anyone have any spares?
Ok so From my other thread, I found out that one of my COPs is bad. When the car is cold, it runs on two or three cylinders, not all four. When I take a hairdryer and warm up the coils, it runs perfect. I did this test twice, so im pretty darn sure one or two of the coils are not working when they are cold.
How do I test a coil? Something about checking resistance, but I forget what to test (they are toyota coils). Also, does anyone have any spares I can buy? That would be awesome lol. |
They're hard to test because they will test fine when they work, and test open usually when they are not working. You would be measuring the primary coil's resistance. IE-put the meter to ohms and the leads where +12V and Ground hook up.
FWIW, I have a set of toyota COPs for sale posted if you are running toyota COPs. |
dammit pat, whyed you sell them!?
anyone else have any? |
Why don't you test yours? If you got a meter it won't take but 5 minutes to test all four. test them cold, crank it, let it warm up and start running right, then turn it off and test them again. Usually coils work when cold and fail when hot, not the other way around.
