Default I’m new 1st post. Here’s my car

So here’s my car. 2001 that I got from my sister who was the original owner. When I got my hands on it it had a bad miss fire and when I did a compression test It had a bad valve in cylinder 4 so I got a new jdm motor and dropped it in. Now on to the turbo build. I got nice manifold ,down pipe that is v band , turbo and some other necessary stuff like lines. Turbo is a stock s13 turbo and I love it. I took out the stock fuel pressure regulator and converted my fuel system to a return type. Running a stock ecu with an o2 censor modifier. flying Miata timing wheel at 8 degrees. Had to make a custom wastegate bracket that came out super good. People can hate but I love my car and it puts a smile on my face.

Was wondering why you still had the MAF sensor but then read you're using the stock ECU. What max PSI have you set to allow this to work on the stock ECU?

Your next modz need to be an aftermarket ECU and intercooler to put an even BIGGER smile on your face.

Never seen gussets on a downpipe - does someone have OCD? (or just paranoid) - not a bad thing and they look well done.

Interesting that the manifold has gussets between the first 2 pipes after the flange but no additional support between the first pipe and flange - I'm betting this is where your manifold will crack.
ie. The builder took the time to add those gussets, why not add triangular braces between the flange and pipes?

Also: Never realised before that the front strut brace could double-up as a hood brace.

I was at 5 pounds but I wasn’t really satisfied so I messed with the wastegate a little and upped it to 8. My Air fuel ratio’s are still in the 13.8

I don’t think the builder put the triangular braces on I think it was someone else who added it before me

This is interesting. Did you read "How NOT to turbo your Miata" on here and decide that was all bad advice?

If you don’t like it just move on. My car runs great and puts a smile on my face.

I like it. I admire your gumption.

Your motor is dead/dying though. Maybe it'll be a learning experience though.

The 13.8 while in boost surprised me as well. In my limited studying, I read 12.5afr while in boost moving to 11.5 depending on boost level.

12 is fine at that pressure. You don't need lower.

Well you certainly played with/are playing with fire, but as long as you leave the boost where it's at, you might be ok. At least you have a pretty solid hot side collection, we see a lot worse for sure.

I give you a B.
Docked 1 grade for running 13.8 in the first place. Good execution of a sketchy system.

i am always wondering how a turbod car with a stock ECU drives/responds. i can only suggest get a standalon MS2 / MS3 / ME221 and tune it correctly. every turbo setup lives or dies with the tune.
