well guys.. I picked up some of the left over parts to get this project done.
some pics of the parts I picked up today. Attachment 216748 Attachment 216749 I took this to show you how big the fmic actually is Attachment 216750 heres Mr. HKS Manifold(thanks hrach) and Mr. T25 cuddling. Narbie I'm also going to order those APR studs & nuts thanks again. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...3/IMG_2422.jpg Here is where I'm going to run the FMIC pipes through my Radiator support Attachment 216751 Here is the goal... I'm going to run a over the top mount FMIC. Attachment 216752 What makes this fmic difficult to install besides the fact that it's huge.. is that there are no kits like this for the miata. So I'm making it from scratch... I'm currently taking a few welding classes and I'm going to be attending a Tig welding class next sem so this shouldn't be too difficult to make. Here's what my car looked like when I picked her up (1994 Miata 1.8L) $1500 Attachment 216753 Attachment 216754 Attachment 216755 Attachment 216756 and here it is today heres all the junk I had to take out... Attachment 216757 You can see the door and the stock suspension Attachment 216758 this is all the glass from the broken window from the door and other stuff in the car I cleaned out. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...IMG_2444-1.jpg Attachment 216759 Attachment 216760 Attachment 216761 Attachment 216762 Attachment 216763 Attachment 216764 Attachment 216765 |

Is that this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Super...mZ250096379098 I was thinking of replacing my FMII IC with this too on my '01. Frank |
Did you pull the quarter panel yourself? If so, details. I have a dent in my rocker panel from turning to sharply in a parking lot. Hit a concrete median thingy. Car looks too sick lowered though. Its not a bad dent but I think the only way to fix it with the least filler is to use a stud welder and a slide hammer. I don't know if its possible to rent those though.

I have a dent in the rocker from some stupid bitch parking.
-topix- looks like a cool setup! does that manifold hang the turbo? |

VRTsid- I havn't actually bolted on the turbo to see how it is.. it will either sit on top of the manifold.. or hang off it lol. |
Did you get it from etdracing and "Make an offer". I might pick up one just because.

you have to turn the turbo 180degrees... Hks has a top mount manifold....
Clock the turbo down...(compressor housing) Make sure oil feed is on top (and drain is bottem) If that is a bb turbo you need watercooling! |
Stuff looks good.. How well does the knock off HKS BOV work?
|
Because you have no ac, it is easier to lower the radiator and move it a little back. The holes although big enough will not clear the pipes...(hope it does)
The miata in the pic also has an other radiator position. |

Can you turn those around?? Its always better to step up then syep down (for flow)
That is really biggggggggg btw... |
i really like it but i think its too big... your gonna have crazy boost lag IMO
|
ooh Shiny Intercooler Nice :0
|
That intercooler is way over kill. Everything looks great though.
|
If you're gonna go FMIC, might as well do it right the first time. Then you won't need to upgrade the IC again when you put in a bigger turbo (which you will). :)

Looks good. Its gonna be tough to get that piping over the rad.
Also the piping diameter and ample intercooler size will be just fine. Lag will not be an issue. |

I just went with this intercooler on my car too. I got it from cxracing via "make an offer" on ebay. Something around $190 shipped. Mines 2.5" in and out. It is BIG. woah.
I'm thinking I could just move the radiator back the 3" I need and slip the intercooler between the rad. support and the radiator. It'd be real close to the sway bar. Then use some slim lowprofile aftermarket fans. That way I get to keep my A/C and not have to worry as much about clearing the hood, or do i have to take off my bumper, or worry about rigging a hood latch. |
you're gonna want to consider a bigger front mount.
(if you intend to live in it) |

Will 2.5" pipes clear the hood ??
|
Holy blast from the past. You brought back a thread almost 5 years old in the DIY turbo section to ask about clearance and body work?!?
|
Ha its a lose lose, either it was pull up a holy fu**ing old post or starting a new one in which case I catch crap lol anyways its the only thing I found about someone having replaced a quarter panel. I found one article on google after posting this but you know how it is.
|
ha ya, its lose lose if you can't find the answer your looking for by searching, but better to be searching and bringing up old stuff than just posting random new threads i suppose. Hopefully somebody will be able to help you out.
|
Yea that's what I was thinking...I mean I'm replacing it in our shop at school and our instructor has on the verge of 40yrs experiance but its still good to know when your playing with your DD and how long you can't drive for because its ripped apart
|
Good luck but that ic is going to go from headlight to headlight.
|
Did you mean headlight to tail light? I'm pretty good at pulling dents so the front fender may be salvageable but the door is practically untouched minus one little dinge on the very edge that can be fixed with a pair of plyers :) its the quarter that's gonna give me hell. Thanks for the support btw.
