Default R32 GTR turbo on a 1.6?

Hello All,

My dad recently replaced the turbochargers on his R32 Skyline GTR. As a result, he has two used but in perfect working order stock-standard GTR turbos that he's willing to let me have.

How would one of these go on a 1.6 miata?

I'm pretty sure that it could definitely be made to fit, but would the turbo be suited to the engine at all?

it's just a little T25 right? .48 A/R compressor housing / .60 A/R turbine. with a ceramic turbine wheel.

should make a nice spool happy turbo.

I thought I once read that the R32-R34 Skyline turbos actually have a T3 flange on the turbine inlet. Of course I can't find it anywhere now. SR20 forums have good info on OEM Nissan stuff.

Ya thats right. It is a little T25 with a .48(like the 300zx) but has a T3 foot. If I were you buddy, I'd sell the turbos and buy a standered T25/T28 or a T3 to cut down on the pain in the *** the GTR turbo would give you.

Why would the turbo be a pain in the ***? Because it has the T3 foot?

Thanks for the responses so far.

Ya. Its gonna be a big hassle as far as making a manifold and downpipe to fit it. And I say again, making it, because there is nobody that sells anything to fit that. But I mean, if your good at that stuff then by all means, go for it.

I'm not good at that stuff at all! Think I might try a standard t25/28 instead. Thanks for your help.

those turbos are designed to work on just 1.3 liters and give huge amounts of low down torque to the 4wd system...if you use one of those then itll boost at the slightest breath on the throttle and be a pain in the ***....beleive me, some lag is nice to have.

Yah those turbos charges are a bit small with a T3 flange. I got one of those and a RB20 one which is a big larger and it would be perfect, but the smaller one wouldn't be all that horrible on a 1.6, just make sure you don't boost over 14psi, unless you replace the ceramic wheel .

Yeah the ceramic RB20 roller bearing T3 is really nice on a 1600.
