I like turbos
So I finally got my kit finished today. Best 700 dollars I ever spent.
back before I started lurking around here I picked up what I thougtht was a greddy kit. Well its not a greddy kit, I have no idea wtf it is, but its some kind of td04 and it makes my car go fast:eek5: will post pics soon but right now its really hot and I dont feel like it. |
um all signs point to greddy kit. sure its not a modified one? Downpipe and intercooler upgrades are very common so look at the turbo and exhaust manifold. What makes you think its not a greddy?

How are you controlling fuel and/or ignition? Wideband, or are you flying blind?

Ya, Mongo like turbos too. But Mongo thinks Zarniwoop make a stupid thread. Mongo hate Zarniwoop and don't care about it being too hot or that Zarniwoop didn't feel like taking any pictures. Mongo like pictures.

yeah i know, must have pics. I already took most of them but I am moving and I cant find my card reader, or any damned usb cables. I will get my dad to hlp me out tonight probably.
I dont think Its a greddy because its a 3 bolt flange and I thought greddy was 4? I really just wanted to share my giddyness with y'all and I will satisfy your bloodlust for pics soon I promise :bowdown: really |

ok I know these pictures kindof suck, but I did not take them I will try to post some better pics of the turbo and some other things soon. Like I said before I am pretty sure greddy is 4 bolt? wtf is this rusty 3 bolt cast iron thing that I have. well at least it fits:ugh2:
here is most of what the kit came with. http://www.photolava.com/view/6ba4.html I got it for 500 with turbo, mani, charge piping, intake piping (k&n was way to big so did not use) had to buy a vortech 12:1, got a free dsm, set my timing and thats about it so far. With all the bells/whistles/vac lines/drill bits/drils/food for friends/gas in that damned 94 land rover i was driving, it came out to around 700 give or take a few bucks. |
I have never seen that manifold or flange type, ever. Must be something before my time or maybe it's the kit off the early GTX.

ya thats sortof a funky flange, might it be a greddy or some other manifold that has had a new flange welded on? I think subaru turbos might have that inlet flange on them ... damn ... now that I think about it I think that might be it. I have an uppipe in the shed im gonna go look at it.

Zarni, those pics are fine for now. Do you know what PSI the wastegate is set at? You'd do very well the first time you start it up to have the arm disconnected and make some laps around the neighborhood w/no boost and check for leaks/drips/rattles/etc. Then connect the arm and drive VERY CAREFULLY getting slightly more and more into boost until you've verified the boost setting.
The FPR I see is a Vortech... do you know what disc is in it? What else are you running? Bigger injectors? Fuel pump? I wouldn't use the MAF included in your kit. Just use your original. Is everything we see in the pictures the entire deal? If that's everything, you need to retard your base timing to 6* and limit yourself to 5-6psi of boost. What about fuel filter? How are you routing the oil lines? Feed/Drain? It looks water cooled, but I can't see your water lines connected. |
yeah. Pretty sure its not water cooled, otherwise im gonna kill my mechanic.
I set my timing, tapped my pan according to info I found here, recirced my bov and now she runs good, gonna go install boost gauge today(I know, Im stupid and just asking for blown engine, but Im pretty sure my boost is around 5 pounds, judging from other turboed miatas i have been in) everything is pretty much coming together for my tired old 91, just gotta save up to feed the new addiction now:) |

I'm guessing a 15g off a VR4, has the same 3 bolt flange. |
stock vr-4 turbos are 9b no?....but anyways the turbo is a mits 3bolt flange(vr-4 turbos)...if it works then use it!!!...
