I need to learn how to tune. Turbo!

Like the tittle says, I want to learn how to tune. I've had several FI turbo cars and the tunning part of it is just a drag. From the cost of tuning to the customer service. I'm building this Miata in hopes of learning how to tune my own car. I can turn wrenches and have some friends who are always willing to help.

I can afford a nice build but I'm choosing a diy route because i can learn some more and I can save some cash. I've owned a couple other miatas in the past including one I purchased that was already turbo. It's been 6yrs since.

When I have this car all put together, if anyone SoCal is willing to help me/ teach me the basics of tuning, I am willing to pay for their time.

Heres build so far
1991 1.6 long nose
Garret 2560
begi/fm cast mani (old one)
fm full dp
mspnp2
dw 1000cc
hks bov
fm intercooler pipes
old Godspeed intercooler

I will be ordering a fm stage 1 clutch. I still need an intake and exhaust. I'll prob just have a 2.5" built at a muffler shop.I have a zeitronix zt2 with; wideband, boost, egt, oil pressure new left over from my sti build but I think it may be too much work to install so I may just buy an afr gauge and boost gauge.

Ive been working on this car for a few months now and you can see from pictures I've put suspension, wheels/tires blah blah won't go much into asthetics or other mods at this time as I'm really just interested in the turbo charging process and tunning. Not as focused on a whp number as much as I am on wanting to learn but I'd say 200-225whp would be nice.

I meant to post this in the build thread, sorry guys. If anyone can move it, that'd be great.

Where did you get your gt2560 from? I'm digging the compressor housing.

Go with a 3" exhaust over 2.5". It will help out spool and make more power. There is absolutely zero reason to go 2.5".

Buy this book and give it a read. It will help you get your mind wrapped around tuning.

Even if the lower section of the fm downpipe (not in my pictures) seems to be smaller than a 3"? Looks like a 2-2.5" tops.

appreciate it. I will purchase it.

Yes, even if the downpipe end is only 2.5", going up to 3" past that is well worth it.

That is a good book. I just recently got it myself. It is more of a "this is how everything works" than a "do this step, do this step next" but because every set up and car are so different, you really can't do that with tuning.
