I know a bunch of kids from my hometown who are big into the East Bay street racing scene. They put videos up on Facebook, and one of my absolute favorite things to do is troll the comments section with F&F quotes.

"Bullshit, *******, nobody likes the tuna here."

My $ is on the head gasket.

When you blew your hot charge through the head gasket and into the water jacket it found the weakest link in your pressurized cooling system. I've seen the top tank of a radiator bend outward on a boosted car that had a blown HG. It actually bent the tabs that hold the radiator pressure cap on, too.

Check the head for trueness, swap the HG and go.

I mean how long can it take? Ive never done an NB but it only take like 2 hours on a NA by yourself. I want to see some carnage! also look at the pistons through the spark plug hole if its a head gasket it can make the pistons very clean almost like new if there is no other damage, it kinda has a steam cleaning effect.

Except I don't have that much time to work on car, and doing this for the VERY FIRST TIME very slowly and carefully, and am limited by the very small amount of tools in the garage, as well as so much other **** to do.

I'm not pulling the motor yet. I am taking off the head first. Maybe, just maybe its only HG and I wont have to do anything drastic. That's what I'm hoping anyhow.

Progress:

Drained the coolant, lots of rust in it, but I don't see any oil or anything that looks like oil.
Drained the oil: its as clean and non-contaminated as the day I put it in. No chunks, not bullshit.

Will be taking off the intake mani after work today and then off goes the head

I think it'll be easier if you remove the head with mani attached...

Oh really? I was thinking about that as well. So just disconnect all wiring/lines going to the mani and just pop the whole shebang off? I think I'll do that. Thanx for the tip.

thats how I did it on our integra for sure. Also, when i pulled the head off my old miata engine for storage (out of the car) I left the mani on there as well. If nothing else, its actually easier to grab in my opinion.

Make sure you disconnect the intake manifold brace if you haven't already removed it

So I could not sleep. At all. It was bothering me that the head was almost off and I still don't know what exactly happened in there. So here I am just got done taking it off.

Results:

As you can see, a small portion of of my cyl#4 decided it didn't like its home inside the block. Small scratches at the very top, but otherwise the block itself appears a-ok. The head appears to be fine as well. The head gasket appears to be fine, although its metal, I thought it was supposed to be composite or something? Plugs were fine as well: no signs of severe detonation. No fouling. Nothing.

Anywho, I will be either replacing with another stock block/insides or building. Right now it all depends on what's available and the deals I find.

I honestly don't know:
-On one hand I am on a budget and am PLENTY happy with the power I have had just before it went. 12psi, conservative everything, about 220-250whp according to the butt dyno and absolutely awesome. Bunch of people told me the stocker should hold up to that just fine. This car was turbo'd before I got it, and the person obviously did a hack job, beat the **** out of it, then put it back to stock before selling it to me. This could VERY WELL have been damage done prior and I just finished it off.

-On the other hand I want peace of mind that this **** won't happen again. EXCEPT there is the whole price issue and I'm not crazy financially right now.

I'll be considering my options. Feel free to chime in on what you think happened and what you would do in my case.
