I'm pulling the turbo.. I mean stuff out of the basement.

Various reasons, but hopefully one is funding my e30 obsession.

Gotpsi? 05-16-2010 11:26 AM

By pulling the turbo you mean forever?

rider384 05-16-2010 11:28 AM

I want an E30 or E36 more than any Miata.

Go for it.

Been there...done that.

Once I have enough to have a proper motor swap into an E30 I'll revisit those cars.

You need to get that e30 before you have kids. ;)

wayne_curr 05-16-2010 01:26 PM

Jealous. Not a day goes by that this thought doesn't cross my mind. I want to turbo an E30 so bad. I work on more of them than i've worked on miatas and lately have been driving the M3 since my car is dead.

If you need any parts my buddy has 5 E30s and one Parts car and absolutely everything you could need in his basement.

viperormiata 05-16-2010 01:48 PM

I'm really surprised that so many want a turbo e30 this bad. Out of my group of car guys, I am the only one who doesn't have one. They are obnoxiuosly fast though:laugh:

Y8's if you want ay pictures or video's just shoot me a pm. My good friend Josh actually has one the top ten fastest e30's in the country(the fastest in florida I believe) and he builds stoker motors, exhaust manifolds, sheet metal intake manifolds, megasquirts, etc..etc..

Actually my best friend Zach just bought Josh's lastest stoker M20. We installed that beast with a nice hx40 and.....dear god...it is one hell of a street car:drool:

Damnit, I kinda want one now:vash:

cjernigan 05-16-2010 01:51 PM

Good luck

tyson87 05-16-2010 01:52 PM

e90?

y8s 05-16-2010 07:56 PM

it will probably be a mild and reliable E30 build (no FI for now). I may hold out for a 4 door 5 speed ix and hope to get lucky. There have been a few for sale (one local) recently for reasonable prices. I'm less afraid to do work on it if I've got two spare cars to drive.

BarbyCar 05-16-2010 09:08 PM

A 325ix is being parted out near Toronto because the guy couldn't get the $1500 Cdn he wanted for it. Apparently it needed a clutch. From the pics it looked ok.

(I have a '88 325e E30 w/330,000Km (~200,000miles), 2-door red as my winter/daily driver)

wayne_curr 05-16-2010 09:38 PM

I wouldn't do an ix just because they are

#1 A pain in the ass to work on
#2 They have A LOT different than a normal RWD E30. Most of the parts are NLA as well.

Thats just my 2 cents though.

18psi 05-16-2010 09:43 PM

God dammit y8s. This sucks big time. One less knowledgeable fellow adaptronic member to pester with questions? You're killing me man.

Good luck on the nazi mobile

y8s 05-16-2010 11:01 PM

i'm not totally set on the ix. I'd rather have a solid runner i car with the four doors and five speed than an ix. and probably save some coin.

We have lots of rust free E30s out this way if you're up for a road trip.

proughj 05-17-2010 02:17 AM

You can buy my e30. I need to sell it to buy a truck anyway.

gospeed81 05-17-2010 07:44 AM

Sad to hear.

Maybe I'm just sour because I'm at the ugly end of the process, but parting out your setup and converting back to stock is painful. I was in a hurry to sell, so didn't get much back out of my build. While I'm sure you can afford to have more patience, it still hurts to box up and ship off all the hard work you invested and won't be compensated for. Then you have to put just as much work back into getting the car running again, only you're not motivated because it's going to be slow again. Unless you were incredibly clean in your installs (which I imagine you are), you are likely missing stock parts, and will have to do some splicing/rebuilding to get things working again as well. My fabrication and diagnostics work to get the car running on the Mazda ECU again easily rivals what it took to get MS and COPS going.

You've probably considered all this, and all builds are different, I'm just offering a sad sad man's perspective from the other side of that tunnel. I'm sure neogayness could give you a similar account.

Anyhow, good luck with it all, especially the new build. I can definitely understand the desire to move on to something else, and I won't lie: it's all worth it when I'm on the bike. I'm sure I'll remember the other reason I decided to do it when we're on the plane heading to the Caribbean in 3 weeks and see the smiles on my wife and daughter's faces.

miata2fast 05-17-2010 07:52 AM

Quitter

Can I have the clutch/flywheel?
