Injector Cleaning Opinions Needed
 

My diy project is coming along. I got my megasquirt assembled, just need to order the tip120 deal for idle control and then I am going to try to setup the electronic boost control deal. Anyway, I got some rx7 550cc injectors.

How important is it to have them professionally cleaned and flowed? Can I not just service them myself to save some dollars. If I must spend $60, I will, but if I can do an adequate job for $10 that would be nice. Thanks.

in my opinion it's one thing you're better off paying for. Cruzin performance did a nice job on mine for a good price. You just never know how they're flowing. They will replace all the replacable parts and put new o-rings and seals on them. This will eliminate them as possible problem later down the road on your diy build

Witchhunter is another one that comes well recommended and cheaper than RC for cleaning/balancing/etc.

Highly recommend getting them cleaned as an extra $40-50 is worth every penny to know that your injectors are good, especially if they have been sitting uninstalled for awhile. Been enough cases here of guys who have had issues and tracked it down to gummed up injectors. FWIW, my rx-7 550cc injectors looked pretty good cosmetically, but two of them failed testing before cleaning. I've read about some DIY methods of cleaning injectors, and there are no objective comparisons between DIY and professionally cleaned, but why risk it?

Thanks guys. Pretty much what I figured, but just wanted to convince myself that I need to spend the money. I am trying to stretch my dollars as much as I can, but I dont want to cut corners on the important stuff either. I'll get them on their way to cruzin.

Another vote for professional cleaning. Since miatas are known for #4 cylinder running hot, use the flow sheet to put the fattest injector there.
