injector question

hi i have A 90 miata its stock right now but i plan dropping turbo it once spring comes i wanted to know if i could just drop a set of RC 440cc injectors in with the stock ecu and have no problem running th car because im going to buy a greddy kit and add on to it over the summer with every thing from a intercooler to new down pipe and blow off valve. i also wanted to know is the MSD ignition boost retard will help with the knock or will i still have to set the timing back on th cam gear. thanks

Use of the shift key will help you get more replies.

Answer to dropping in 440's: Probably Not.

The conventional wisdom on this forum is that the largest injector the 1.6 ECU is able to idle properly are 330cc, and even that is with a lot of fiddling to the AFM.

Also:

The car will never idle. The largest iirc you can run are 330's and that requires tweaking the MAF.

Then after you do that search on each topic heading on this board and read everything. After all of that is done put together a well thought out string of questions in a post and put on some asbestos underwear.

The RC 440's are not PnP you have to get the adapters to connect to the stock ones or the pigtails, and you would need a new ECU to control those stock one cant, and search...

thanks i have been looking into doing a MegaSquirtPNP with the injectors but do i use low or high Resistance with the MegaSquirtPNP and is there any thing els i should know or need for the MegaSquirtPNP

Trent 03-18-2008 11:06 PM

The MSPNP is recommended for use with high-impedance injectors.

I don't mean to be rude, but these are all questions that are concisely answered in the Megasquirt FAQ's page on this site.

sorry im still trying to go throw every thing and find a lot of answer thanks for the advice tho

+1 i used to be like you, you shall get the hang of it in a while. But i do believe someone did you low impedance injectors with the ms...but yes high is recommended but the RC 440s are high.

It's no problem. I realize it can be very overwhelming. :)

I see you are planning on a Greddy kit. Were you intending to buy new? For not a lot more money you can have a far superior entry level turbo kit manufactured and supported by an American company with GREAT product support (something that is frankly a huge problem with the Greddy kit). Take a look at the Bell Engineering (BEGi) BEGi-S turbo kit.

http://www.bellengineering.net/Pages...ems_BEGiS.html

The kit comes with a much better turbo, an INFINITELY better downpipe, much better manifold (the Greddy one is VERY crack prone), much better Fuel Management Unit. Basically, take every component in the kit and put the words "much better" in front of it, and you'll catch my drift. ;) And it's only slightly more expensive than a new Greddy, but worth much much more in terms of component quality.

Also the kit is directly upgradeable to BEGi's higher level turbo kits. You're pretty much on your own with upgrading a Greddy.

Did you miss the part where they said that you should capitalize the correct words and use punctuation?

Anyway, you can use either high or low but people see better results with high.

When you are considering a product, read the manual.

Seriously, if English is your first language, use it to the best of your ability. Nobody here is gonna make a big deal over a typo, but when a new guy comes here asking simple questions that are answered in the forums FAQS or can't follow basic grammar rules, your not gonna get much help. Odds are they will either ignore you or post something that's has nothing to do with what your asking. :)

10-12 is generally recommended on a 1.6. 15 psi is doable, but anything over that is pushing it on the stock 1.6 connecting rods. You will have to retard your timing. You can gain some back if you run a Bipes ACU (easiest, but least configurable) or a piggyback (like a Greddy Emanage Blue) or if you run a Megasquirt PNP, which will solve all those problems (and create a whole different set, but that's for another thread.)

I'm trying to help you out, but once again, every one of the questions you just asked are easily found with a search. Just in case you haven't seen it:

READ THIS THREAD IN IT'S ENTIRETY.
