installation begins.
it's been long in the making, but it's finally happening.
i installed the intercooler and wired the gauge (note: vdo series 1 gauges won't fit into the pillar pods.) tonite. the turbo is dressed, bolted to the manifold and ready. the fuel pump is dressed and ready. the fuel injectors are ready to go. i have maybe some 3/8" hose to get, but when my link comes back this week, it should be pretty easy...i've installed one in this car before. just might need a 4-wire o2 and a manual boost controller. |
you forgot to upload the pics!
yah, i thought about that.
today i strung the wires through the firewall and rewired an extra injector harness i had so i can run the injectors sequentially. |
Are you running the link standalone or link piggy?
standalone.
What's the beniifit of running your injectors sequentially?
Improved mileage, throttle response and emissions. They go paired at something like 4k though because of the reduced time between triggers. Basically it prevents each injector from firing on its exhaust/ign stroke.
Ok makes sense. thanks:)
yah, i did it on my greddy and it was noticable smoother on throttle tip in.
the bitch is running the wires. there is a heavy, rubber mat on the firewall on the passenger side that is pretty thick. it's impossible to see the pass-thru without removing the blower motor. i removed teh washer fluid reservoir, straighted out the hook on my wire fish (can't think of the technical term...used to fish wires through walls in houses). i rammed the fish through the mat and felt it go through. re bent the hook and pulled the ground and two wires needed for the sequential injectors and yanked it back through. |
I feel your pain. I did the sequential, the MSD DIS-2, WBO2, EGT and OIL Temp. What made the perfect wire fish for me? The original antenna mast. It'll spear right through all that rubber insulation.
 i think the first time i used a big ass ice pick.
Is the sequencial wiring worth doing? I did't bother when I installed my Link because I just wanted it to work. Thinking about it now though. I don't know how I feel about modding the injector wires.
My understanding is that it's more difficult to get a stable/smooth idle with sequential injection. There must be at least one downfall to it or the OEMs would use it. Afterall if it can "Improved mileage, throttle response and emissions", etc, etc... they score points with the media and government folks.
the oems do use it. the '93 ca versions came with it. the response is a little smoother. the wiring harness was easy to modify. you cut the yellow wires going to #3 and #4 and connect the piece of that wire going to the injector connector to two wires that run to 2y and 2z pin connectors. the other pieces of the yellow wire you just tape off. it took me longer to take off the old tape and covering than it did to alter the harness.

Lets see some pics!!:D
i will take pics later. my batteries are both dead, so i need to recharge them. i'm keeping the car driveable, so i put the carpet back. i'll take some pics of the i/c and whatever else might seem interesting. i'm waiting to hear back from my friend who is soldering in the upgrade circuits on the link board. if he sets up a satuday fedex delivery, i'll start installing the mechanicals tonight. if it is set to be delivered monday, i'll start saturday or sunday. i need to go get some coolant hose for the turbo, spark plugs, and i need to maybe look for some heat shielding.

Patience, grasshopper.

ok, bastards, here are some shots:
this is how the BEGI intercooler mounts, it's the "new mounting style with wings. it's not plumbed, but i was driving around today in about 85 degree weather and oddly my coolant temps were a little cooler than normal. maybe the wings deflect more air up towards the top of the radiator? front http://home.carolina.rr.com/skrause2/ic_front.jpg looking towards the passenger side http://home.carolina.rr.com/skrause2/ic_left.jpg looking under the car straight in from the front (front of the car is at the bottom of the page) it mounts to the tapped holes for the tie-down hooks. http://home.carolina.rr.com/skrause2/ic_right.jpg similar angle, but in the passenger side. you can see the a/c dryer. http://home.carolina.rr.com/skrause2/ic-right2.jpg my tapped oil pan and -12an braided line. http://home.carolina.rr.com/skrause2/oil_return.jpg |
now was that hard?
