Installing the Turbo Kit

Well I would like to just say hello. This is going to be my first real post sense my intro. With out further to do.

I picked up a miata a while back driving it home, I could tell I needed some power, and having a boosted daily( fully build hyundai tiburon ) I opted to start gathering turbo kit parts, ei Exedy thin 3 puck, greddy kit with fmu for the mean time, and. Front mount with a set of 1.8l injectors. Waiting for the BOV, but for the mean time im just going to run with out one.

After whoring up the forum for about a month I created a plan of attack. Today I pulled the motor while leaving the tranny installed. Just spent 45 dollars filling it with oil so I didnt feel like removing it, as I read it was suppose to be more complicated. I removed the CAS and COIL to get the top bell housing bolt out and it was easy! About 25 minutes later I had the long block out and flywheel off. This was about 1230, I started at 1015. So went and dropped the flywheel off to get resurfaced and had lunch. Returned to cranking at 130, with flywheel in hand, mounted the clutch assembly and matter the motor to the tranny with the new oil pan that has a WELDED drain bung to the tranny, reinstalled the AWR Goodwin racing motor mounts installed all the wiring called it a day at about 430. Tomorrow I have to install the starter, manifold, turbo, dp, intercooler, and charge pipes! Then off to save for Megasquirt!

Also due to my whoring here I decided to go ahead and delete my Ps, and Ac while I had the room to do it legitimately!

Thanks for the awesome forum!

You certainly don't mess around...welcome. What clutch did you go with?

My92 12-08-2012 10:41 PM

Thank you, I am finding a way to upload some pictures but its being pain. The clutch I am using is a Exedy Cerametallic 3 puck rated at 180 ftlbs. I dont plan on making anything more than 250whp which my torque shouldnt be more than that, im running a rebuild stock motor at the moment.

I always found it was easier to pull the motor with the transmission attached, but meh, whatever floats your boat.

Good luck with remaining install! The miata is ridiculously easy to work on. A motor swap in my old Integra required so much more work.

Well im back! I started today at 10am, first thing I did was install the Manifold, dope that was a wrong idea, removed it then installed the dp to reinstall the mani. After that everything went as it should. Had it all buttoned up and retimed by 2pm. It is all done and the only thing left is to take it to an exhaust shop to mate my dp to my cat back sense I cut out the cat.

Thank you! Wish this site had a reputation function for members!

viperormiata 12-10-2012 02:05 AM

It does, actually. See the +0- on the bottom right hand side of my post? That is the "rep" counter. It lets you "rep" members for good or bad posts.

The reason why your images didn't work is because you didn't use the "image" tag. Copy the URL of the image you are trying to post and click the button that looks like a mountain landscape. Paste the image URL in the box and you're all good.

My92 12-10-2012 02:10 AM

I dont see it, possibly cause im post with a mobile phone? I used direct image, I will have to practice, there are only 3 other urls to choose from so I will get it right sometime.

lol.

My92 12-10-2012 09:10 AM

What funny, may you enlighten me please?

Braineack 12-10-2012 09:14 AM

a 3 puck clutch that can only hold 180lbs is a bit funny.
a 3 puck clutch on a miata is a bit funny.
a 3 puck clutch on a miata that will barely be able to hit 200rwhp is a bit funny.

the combined funniness led to my lol.

it's a shame I wont be able to watch you stall the first time you try to drive it.

My92 12-10-2012 09:31 AM

I have drove it for about 45 miles, not one stall! Well thank you for helping!

Brak 12-12-2012 06:29 AM

Very nice workspace! Can you give me some details on what you're using for fuel management until mega squirt?

My92 12-12-2012 09:01 AM

Right now im on the 6:1. Fmu and 1.8 l injectors, 190lph fuel pump

My92 12-12-2012 02:02 PM

Well have about 100 miles on the setup so far, my review on the clutch is great, works like it should, pedal feel is pretty heavy with the 1455lb pressure plate. Yet, the car pulls like a monster compared to the stock N/A i was use to driving. Will make another review after water meth this weekend.

Basically you bought a clutch with shit drive-ability, AND it doesn't hold any power.

Most people buy puck clutches for their ability to hold massive power, and deal with the downside of crappy drive-ability. You got the worst of both worlds.

Cool car though otherwise, just bad clutch choice imo.

Well come spring I will have a MS and hope to be more than 250.

Also driving a 3 puck is not a problem for me as i am use to daily a 400Whp Hyundai Tiburon with a very heavy, very sticky Competion Clutch.
