Intercooler Routing
I posted over on m.net but i'll toss it up here too. Has anyone had their out port facing up and still routed to their IC? if so please post pics of the route you took. I think it's possible to sneak some 2" through in front of the A/C or near the DP but it'll be tight. I know i can reclock the turbo i have a garrett 2560... but I'm trying to avoid extra labor. thought please!

Sure, easy enough. Why?

why avoid extra labor? cause i like the skin on my hands. :)

Come on man, clocking a turbo is one of the easiest things you can do. Sure it's possible, but why not just do it the better way?
|
I did it with 2 1/2" piping and still cleared the a/c with ease.

Anyone using a turbo clocked that way have issues cooking the paint on the hood? The older FM intercooler I have is setup for the turbo to be clocked that way and I'd planned on rerouting that portion of the piping but if it's a non-issue I'll keep it as built.
|
That's the spot I was thinking of. Thanks for confirming its good... I just wanted to know so when I ordered I got the right bends. :)
|
No the paint on the hood is fine... if you were that concerned you could put some insulation above it. I haven't had any issues with hotside as of yet and its been 2 years.
|
theres roughly 3-4" from the turbo to the hood. Also thats a relatively cold pipe. You should be worried about the exhaust side cooking the hood not the intake side.

I'm almost done with my diy intercooler and then i'll post up my writeup with pictures but before i do i have one last thing to address. In joe's write up he brazed a bronze fitting to his aluminum for his bov and his idle bypass port and both of them broke. Joe then gave up and used some steel and welded a solution up. Anyone else have reliable success tapping into aluminum pipe for bov/bypass valve? if so what kind of fitting did you use and what materials did you use? if brazed what kind of filler material was used?
Also i'd like to say thanks a lot guys I know diy intercoolers get beat to death on the forum and half of you who read it initially just hit the back button. I searched the m.net first and couldn't find squat so then i posted there and here and didn't bother searching these forums since i already did m.net. that was a huge mistake because there were TONS of threads that i found very helpful after i found the search button. |
have you seen the silicone T's that some of the guys are using for the BOV?
Dunno if that has any interest... |
clocking a turbo isnt that bad. Just use a lil heat if necessary
|
I have seen a few ott setups do the 90 degree bend off the compressor.
|
thanks but i'm more interested with the pipe going into the TB and putting a bypass on it. I've heard of people plugging the bypass or putting a filter on it but i'd like to run it back in.
