Intercooler Size Etc?

Im trying to locate an intercooler in the UK for my conversion but im not sure if the size I have found is suitable.
I read the post on intercooler size but would like some opinions on the intercollers I have found.

Only problem with the above is its from the US and the postage is far to expensive.

This intercooler is a universal intercooler which is cheaper but im not sure if 2.25" inlet is too small.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Universal-Fron...item20b19cf1fa
This is similar to the oether but has a 3" inlet.

The only thing I dont understand is in the post it says about core size been best from 18-24" long. Does that essentially mean that all I need is an intercooler which is 18-24" long?

Any opinions welcome.
Thanks
Andy

Core = the size of the area of the intercooler that actually does the work (in other words the intercooler without the end tanks.) What kind of power goals do you have?

Minuimum 200WHP
Max 250WHP

Is there a specific inlet size which is best eg 2.25", 2.5", 3".
I can find all sorts of intercoolers but dont want to get one that wont provide the max performance for money.

Any help appreciated.

what is your specific desired end state? autocross? track days? street driving?

larger inlet will flow better overall, but be slightly less responsive. 3" is probably overkill for an IC on a 1.6.

The 2" begi pipes got me to 300 just dfine and they're easier to fab considering routing.

My end goal is a street legal track car if that makes sense. I want it to be as powerful as possible without compromising reliability.

So Hustler in your opinion 2" inlet/outlet diameter is fine?

I guess 2.25 is the smallest I can find in a universal cooler from the uk.

My plan is to get a cooler once I have figured out which type then install it to the car and work out what pipes and bends I need with it in place.

Then once I have this sorted I need to source an exhaust (Full system front to back) and then I can install everything.

Im trying to do it the most efficient way I can without spending to much in a month and leaving my self short.

Fuck it, use 4 inch IC pipes, you can get your throttle response back with a "boost saver" just search for it here.

Sounds too complicated going 4". Im experienced with turbos but im struggling to learn the DIY turboing of a Miata. Im reading masive amounts of posts to try and get upto speed but im still not sure hence the occasional post.

As Hustler said fabricating a 3" pipe or 4" (If thats even possible!) would be a nightmare 2" would be easier to locate in the tight engine bay.

It would be nice to get a consensus on what people are using eg size of there intercooler?

There seems to be lots of tuning parts in the US for the miata and hardly any in the UK.
