Intercooler Sizing Efficiency

I'm currently running 11lbs of boost the car does not have an intercooler. Was going with fmic, but the intercooler I have is to long. My question is how small can I go before the intercooler starts losing efficiency and acts like a heat sink?

Search deezums and Aidandj builds for a good FMIC that has good cost benefit ratio. I think Schuyler has one as well.

I haz one as well ;)

But yes, that one is great.

OP,
27x7x2.5 all alum bar&plate will meet the needs of just about 90% of the cars here

generally speaking, a thinner intercooler with more frontal area is better than a thicker one with less frontal area. The law of diminishing returns applies exponentially as you get thicker for heat exchanges.

The one you posted seems way to thick. If packaging isnt an issue go with a thinner but more frontal area IC

18psi 02-20-2015 10:39 AM

yes both of the ones posted are not anywhere near what you'd want

Spoon feeding complete, sticky this shit

cyotani 02-20-2015 12:29 PM

props for taking the time to dig up the links aidandj!

18psi 02-20-2015 01:32 PM

Yep, now no one has an excuse for not buying these awesome things

RoadsterKirby 02-26-2015 09:08 AM

Thank you guys so much for spoon feeding and not telling me to fuck off. Reason as to why I selected that ic choice is because it's the closest in size for my side by side set up. Invisible Intercooler – Engine bay mounted IC - MX-5 Miata Forum doing something similar to that.

aidandj 02-26-2015 09:12 AM

Fuck, not this shit again.

Braineack 02-26-2015 09:23 AM

problem: miatas overheat.
solution: halve the radiator.

18psi 02-26-2015 09:34 AM

problem: simple proven setup that works for everyone
solution: terrible very prone to failure solution for the sake of being different

lol

You can take a fellow out of clubricer, but you can't take clubricer out of the fellow

RoadsterKirby 02-26-2015 06:16 PM

So even with a coolant reroute my car will have over heating problem with the smaller radiator?
