Cool ITT: input on Full Boar Max Flow SS 5x11x22 vs the Magna 12578/9

Ok, so I 1st heard about it here:

https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...e2/#post951409

I was really excited about the magna 12579 flounder reviewed, but now I'm back to being torn between the not so straight through design of it vs the straight through of the 12578.

For reference:
Magnaflow 12579
Magnaflow 12578
full boar max flow ss

I've used the 12578 before with good results. It was great but if I can find something either: quieter, or cheaper (with same characteristics) this time around, I'll be happy
I'm really tempted by the 79 since its EVEN quieter (and I love quiet)

But reading online about tests and reviews, the straight through design flows WAY more, and though a bit louder, people say its not a huge amount more.

Both are in the $120-140 range.

Then I see the link to the Full Boar Max flow SS. Same size, same design (even better actually), and for less than HALF PRICE. The jew in me is very intrigued

Doing a search I don't find too many reviews of it, and not to many sound/vid clips (of this specific full boar product).

Some others chimed in flounders thread and said they've used this muffler.

So I'm looking for input/suggestions/reviews/etc.

My goal is maximum flow with minimum sound. Rest of system will be 3"

And before it gets re-posted: yes Scott I still remember your awesome illustration in that thread how the flow isn't going to get affected as much as I think on the dual chambered 79, but a couple reviews online stated they noticed a power bump going from it to a straight through version.

So again, I'm split

The Full Boar is half the price cause its double the cheapness of magnaflow. I will bet you that packing material will burn out fast. And then you have a large empty can for all that sound to bounce around in. I've had many mufflers, and the Magnaflows are the only ones that I've ever had/heard of that DO NOT burn out. Yes, they burn "in", but they never get louder than that.

I wouldn't.

Ok thanks for the input.

Been doing a little googling, and from other forums have heard at least a couple other responses just like yours.

That kinda confirms my suspicion about this thing being so cheap.

Pretty much what I was going to say.

At least it has SS mesh, others dont:

As far as I know Magnaflows have much better sound deadening material inside:

Omg dynomax... ugh... Those suckers lasted HOURS on the car....

The Magnaflow is nicer than the Goodwin Roadster sports, and the Flyin Miata exhausts. Both of those burned out on my car. The Maggy? Negatory star captin. Still sounds like the first hour I installed it.

its like $20 cheaper on amazon. $126 vs $102. Not bad. I'll have to call perf peddler today and see if they can beat that, since the "best they can do" on the site is $117 apparently.

They used to be better for the prices. Now you have to call, Magnaflow dealers has to sign something that says they'll only advertise the MSRP price. So everyone should be selling every Magnaflow at the same price.

If not, they like to get up and arms about it. And they wont list you here: MagnaFlow Exhaust - Buy Online

which gives you insane amount of traffic.

I used to sell Magaflow mufflers, was listed on that page, and bought them at wholesale from Performance Peddler...who at the time were the #1 distrubtor. But they kept getting in trouble with Magnaflow over the MAP pricing, and now it seems they had to change their ways, and they arent listed on Magnaflow.com anymore.

Yeah, it blows.

I remember when I bought my 1st one from them, called and got a smokin deal.

BTW that $102 price I posted from amazon is BS. So I guess PP is the cheapest. I'll see if I can get it down anymore, otherwise its whatever. I'll get it cause no one has anything bad to say about it, and its still a decent price

nice. I wish I could find the pics, but I know someone did install one of these suckers at an angle and was able to do away with the need for the J-bend. I wish I tried to do that when I installed mine.

I believe Savington said there was a trivial but noticable difference in spool when he runs that muffler, and it's probably due to that bend.

So basically a 45 bend into the muffler, then a 45 bend out the back.

like this:

but this is the 5x9x18" IIRC.

although I do believe the NB has less room up there like the NAs; mines tucked well up into that heatshield you see.

I know exactly who you're talking about: patsmx5
And I remember the pics. And I been looking for them for the past week and just cannot find them, went through all his accounts and his Photobucket. Guess I'll hit him up and see if he has em saved on his comp. He's just so busy these days and takes forever to respond.

Also on my 1st setup, I used the same can but in 2.5", and angled it like you're saying.

I will definitely try that routing. My biggest concern is the fact that the 79 isn't offset, but in the middle on both ends, so there's a good chance I won't be able to get away with the 45" and have to do the long-dong S like you and y8s

I thought patsmx5 had like 27 cherry bomb mufflers.

Yeah, like 2 or 3 cb's and the large magna on the back. I bet his **** is silent. I'm actually scoping out resonators right now. Kinda wanna run 2 big *** ones like I did on my 00. Made the tone so mellow

Right now, for some weird reason, the car is EXTREMELY LOUD at 3000-3300. Like louder than all my other NB's. I don't know why, its bone stock, and engine is in great shape. below and above that, it is just as quiet as any others. And it just so happens that 65mph in 6th is exactly in that region. FML!!!!

So I want to eliminate as much drone and resonance in addition to regular sound/noise.

resonators are all the rage.

I think it was Rob, m2cupcar; Pat has an 18" muffler:

Problem is, all Rob's pictures were posted before we started saving inline pics as attachments, and his links no longer work.
