my car will idle with no AFM sometimes, until you hit the throttle then it will die. My car idled for 15 seconds one time w/o the AFM...it was odd. Check to make sure the turbo is spinning, maybe its siezed? Check all IC pipe connections, all vacuum lines, clean the AFM plug, poop on your turbo as a last resort.

Braineack 12-15-2006 12:38 PM

it will run without the AFM hooked up. Plug in the AFM and it dies. Swapped in the RX7 AFM and same results. Somethings wrong with my a/f mixture or something. Pulled trouble code 10, which I've nver had before going to go look it up.

turbo was spinning before i took it all apart, ill check to see if I didnt do anything to it.

good news is I think the oil was leaking from the feed not the return so I might not have to pull it all again.

bripab007 12-15-2006 01:02 PM

Hmmm...dies when you plug in an AFM, huh? Maybe you accidentally dislodged some wiring or something.

Braineack 12-15-2006 01:41 PM

i think somethings up with the connection or whatever runs the pump...

turbo spins freely and smooth

i did put my hand over the intake and let it pressurize, then let it stall. i can hear some leaks (hard to pinpoint). Maybe it's just a bad coupler somewhere....not sure yet, going to make a rubber cap and pressurize with an air compressor so I can hear better. probably wont get to it till the weekend.

oil feed just wasn't tight enough, so no oil leaks anymore hopefully.

Cleaned the ground by the heater lines and under the clutch master....runs again...:eek4:

Fritch 12-15-2006 06:42 PM

Didja do a happy dance? :) I had a problem with my tach cutting out and acting erratic on occasion (car ran ok though), turned out to be the same ground causing the probem.

Braineack 12-15-2006 09:39 PM

no i was pissed and didnt put it back together. I got better things to do then fucking fiddle around for two day for freaking ground wires....jesus....

magnamx-5 12-16-2006 08:24 AM

I've got a 4 gauge wire (amp power line) run as engine ground between the upper shock mount and the side of the head where the lift hook attaches. It seemed to smooth out my idle a lot when I added it, but then my stock ground strap is frayed pretty badly.

Ben 12-16-2006 04:14 PM

Glad that you figured it out & all is ok. Could have been much worse, or much harder to diagnose.

Improving the grounds on my car made a nice difference. My wb o2 shows more consistent readings between headlights on & off too.

Braineack 12-16-2006 04:16 PM

It's stupid....I'm really pissed. I acutally posted on M.net for answers for god's sake.

F20turbo 12-16-2006 05:07 PM

Did You Poop On It?

Braineack 12-16-2006 05:08 PM

No, I'm going to put it back together tomorrow and love it and stroke it gently and apologize.

magnamx-5 12-16-2006 08:14 PM

stroking it always makes me feel better
