Not many people running them though they should be great quality, and you can run an external WG.
WHy do you ask if you already have an HKS? I prefer BEGI and FM mani's only because you can get a downpipe easily for them whereas everything else will be custom. If you can get fab work done easily then go for it. |

I have a JGS mani, and love it. Its thick as hell, and it mounts the turbo really far forward and up (Between cyl 1-2), leaves plenty of room for a 3" dp without cutting anything.

HEHEHEHEH...that makes me happy! thanks apex

On topic...I was thinking about a JGS mani, till I came across a really good buy on a BEGI downpipe. Now I'm looking for a BEFI/FM mani. |

HKS Manifold, Sr20-t25, Greddy FPR,Walbro FP THis is WHy. :crx: and you illiterate ------, you can use an before an acronym. The choice of indefinite article is governed by the sound of the next word, not by its spelling. |

Sounds like an PEBCAM

I run one on my car, with an external gate. Very sturdy, no cracks in nearly 2 years, and i have no bracing

I bought the weld-it-yourself kit from JGS. I'm running an internal wastegate but it would be easy to go back and fit it for an external wastegate.
The manifold is seriously overbuilt, everything is super thick and I doubt it will ever crack. I cut some relief flanges into it but I don't think they were necessary. JGS is a great company, coming from the 240sx world I had bought from them before and have never had a bad experience with them. They have decent prices on oil line kits too. http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/8...87largeuw1.jpg http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/7...93largefp8.jpg |

thanks guys...that helped out alot!

bet this doesn't make you feel good:
http://www.boostedmiata.com/cracked_...ld/cracked.jpg :bigtu: this is what happens when you don't use a flex pipe and hardmount the DP to the tranny.... http://www.boostedmiata.com/cracked_manifold/weld3.jpg but then I fixed it...and didnt learn.... and then this happened: http://www.boostedmiata.com/cracked_...brokeassdp.jpg |
scott, what exactly did happen there with the DP ( i assume its a DP), looks like something went through it...whats the story?
|
there was a bracket welded there, that was attached to the tranny. it ripped off after 2 days on the track and the manifold cracked again. it's not smart to try to prevent the DP from hitting the k member by bolting it down tight......stress and heat are not your friend! :gay:
|
Thats the lesson kids. Use a flex pipe and make sure the welding is up to par.
|
that wasn't the first step in adding an external waste gate? ;)
|
No offense Scott but the weld in your first post looks like poop, that certainly couldn't have helped the problem.
The weld in the second pic looks much, much better. I'm running a flex pipe right at the end of my dp. |
the first (really the second) turned out to be nickel weld....because the "professional" welder i took it to decided that the manifold was cast iron. The second weld was TIG IIRC.
But regardless of how well it was welded...you cant weld a stress point, continue to heat and stress it and think it's going to hold again for the 3rd time :) i doubt it would have failed to begin with if I hadn't bolted the downpipe up. It also came cracked, after I put that kit together (bought second hand without an ounce of knowledge) I took it straight to a dyno. While it made 170rwhp with just a FMU/bipes and 6psi, it also was apparent the construction was shit and there was a reason he sold it. |
