Junkyard T25 to fit FM or Begi kit?

To save money I'd like to put a used T25 on an FM or Begi kit that doesn't have a turbo. I know you can get DSM T25s for almost nothing, so I might go that route if it fits. Does anybody know if there are any T25s that will fit the manifolds/pipes without any modifications?

Jeff_Ciesielski 11-17-2009 06:45 PM

The DSM t25 will not fit as it uses a mitsubishi specific flange. Off the top of my head, the s13/s14 t25's will fit, although I'm not sure of any other OE applications.

Thanks! Where's a good place to find those SR turbos?

I thought:

Beginning of time-2005ish, junk yard turbo = 2005-present, chinacharger.

Honestly, I was going to suggest a chinachurbo. I mean, hell, I'd run one. But watch, the first time I actually suggest that will be the time that one of those fuckers actually *does* come apart and spit compressor blades into some poor guys motor. :giggle:

Ebay, or any of the silvia/sr/240 forums. I'm sure you can put your hands to one for cheap. Or just google, "used turbocharger", you might get some hits. Good luck!

Oh, and go make a thread in the meet&greet section, so that you might be verbally sodomized properly!:noob:

What annoys me about the nissan turbos and the china-chargers are that they have flanged inlets and outlets on the compressor

So does that mean you have to grind them off to get a normal pipe on there?

no you have to get little adapters that have a flange on one end and a pipe on the other so you can attach a couple to it.

You can grind the compressor outlet down so a coupler will fit on it. If you search "T25 machining" it should pop up. I did mine as well. Works great. No DIY fix for the compressor inlet though.

Rennkafer 11-17-2009 11:21 PM

The T25 I bought off SR20forum.com doesn't have a flanged inlet but the outlet is flanged. It was off a W10 Avenir (JDM station wagon thing with an SR20DET). The W10 T25's seemed to be for sale reasonably regularly, paid $85 plus the $88 rebuild kit from Gpopshop.

That W10 Avenir turbo is the exact turbo I'm running. I picked it up with a cracked SR20DET manifold for $50 locally on Craigslist. I went through it and cleaned it up, but I didn't rebuild it. Working great so far at 7psi.

The SR20 T25 and T28 are great turbos to use with BEGI/FM stuff as they are outline interchangable with the GT2554R and GT2560R so it's a great cheap turbo to start with that you can easily upgrade later. The GT2560R came stock on the S15 SR20DET's. I got this "S15 T28" (GT2560R) off of CL recently for $40.

Exactly why I picked up the one I did.

Mine had a fair bit of shaft play, so I thought I'd better kit it. Plus I just wanted to rebuild one...

Is the Nissan T28 a Ball Bearing turbo?

S15 silvias came with a BB t28 and the Avenir GT4 came with a BB t25.

clay 11-18-2009 12:45 PM

There are several versions of the T28 that Nissan uses and not all of them are BB. The SR20DET in the Pulsar GTi-R had a journal bearing T28. I'm sure others did as well. I'm not as familiar with the RWD SR20DET stuff.

If it's anything but from an Australian market, yes, it is. The problem with them is once they need a rebuild they're pretty much trash. Unless...anyone know if OEM turbos are allowed in Garrett's CHRA exchange program?

jayc72 11-18-2009 01:28 PM

Is the CHRA specific to the turbo? Or can the CHRA from another turbo be used? For example, using the CHRA from a gt2554r to rebuild a gt2560r?

clay 11-18-2009 03:27 PM

I contacted ATP with the info from my S15 T28 (GT2560R equivalent) and they said it qualified for the CHRA exchange program. $466 for a new CHRA. I'm planning on doing that before I replace my T25 with it as the compressor blades show some damage so it's probably not well balanced. Total will be $500 for a basically new GT2560R.
