Default knock sensor?

Ok so I'm reading up on how to install/tune the voodoo box on my car (which I'll be using for the time being) and it says you can either listen for knock (bad Idea imo) or use a knock sensor reading scantool.

here's the question:

does anyone know where you can get such a scantool for cheap? I know on all the newer cars you can use the free opensource software and make the stock knock sensor tell you if it detects knock, but is there an obd2 scan tool that can do that on a miata?

I won't pretend I know anything about the voodoo box, but this is what I'm using: Engine knock detection and indication for all vehicles
So far it seems to work, though I haven't really driven or tuned since I installed it Sunday.

because its very simple and easy to get the car turboed and running on it. once I have everything worked out and working good, I will start building a megasquirt

why not build a ms, get it running NA and go from there? It would really suck to have it running on the voodo box then swap to your built ms and run into several problems.

Ill be using that same knock sensor in the first reply with my mspnp

well for a few really stupid reasons:

I REAAAAAAAALLLLY want to turbo the car asap.
Im REALLLLLLLY bad at electronics/soldering/etc and a procrastinator

so

I want to get the car turboed and just a tad faster. then I will start my long and complicated journey trying to figure out how to build the damned ms parallel for my car, executing my plan, installing it and tuning it. the tuning part shouldnt be too hard, its the assembly that will kill me.

none of those reasons are good, I know, but there are people safely boosting low psi on voodoo boxes and cars are fun to drive, so I figured I'll be one of those people while i'm in the process of building an ms.
