Smile Looking for feedback on my build list

Hey all,

Been wanting to turbocharge my Miata for awhile now. Been doing a lot of reading and research and I am just about ready to make the jump. My car is a 97 with a fresh Torsen rear end. Engine runs smoothly, but I plan on doing a compression test before I buy any of my turbo stuff, just to be sure the engine is healthy enough.

Here is my build list so far:

Turbo: GT2560R https://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchan...Category_Code=

$860

Manifold and downpipe: Kraken kit https://kraken-mx5.eu/product/t25-tu...npipe-builder/

$784 (shipped)

Injectors: Flowforce 640cc: https://goflowforce.com/products/640cc-injector-kit

$320

Clutch: FM Happy Meal Kit (already owned)

Engine Management: MS PNP3 https://supermiata.com/megasquirt-miata-PNP3.aspx

$1200

Wideband: AEM https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...daba752e5cfe77

$160

Intercooler and piping:

$300?
Goal is 240 WHP. I plan on taking the car to my local tuner who has experience tuning turbo Miatas. Anything you guys would change here? Any major stuff I am missing? I am sure there is. Thank you for taking the time to look it over!

You need hot/cold side charge piping, intercooler, and BOV. That particular turbo also needs ~$100 in intake/compressor outlet flanges.

You're missing some of stuff like water and oil supply/drain lines.

A GT2560 is a good choice, but a lot of people recommend against buying a brand new one. The money spent just isn't worth the 20-year-old technology. For a few hundred more you can have the holy grail of Miata turbos, the EFR. Or go with a used sr20 turbo for a lot less.

Everything else you've listed is good stuff, though.

+1 to what Artifex mentioned. If you're gonna go buy brand new, I'd spend another ~$400 and get a efr6258. I also prefer the standard v-band on the efr. Otherwise, I'd look for a used 2560r that's like half the price of new. Unless you a building your own exhaust, may i also recommend Kraken's complete kit? You'd be hard pressed to build the rest of the exhaust for the same price as just getting his full kit.

Awesome feedback guys, much appreciated! Where do you recommend buying a used 2560R? None on my local classifieds that I can find. Is there a website that rebuilds and sells used ones?

Also I was going to go custom fab with the exhaust setup. But maybe you're right about the full kraken kit....

Quick question, for this turbo setup, would it be worth going up to a 3" downpipe setup? I heard if you call in they can do a full 3" setup.

Finally, the kraken kit says it comes with water/oil lines and fittings for a limited time. I don't see any pictures or descriptions, but thats pretty cool of them, assuming it's decent quality stuff.

I think his offer on the lines is past. Also, he just announced a 20% increase but didn’t say when. You can check his FB page.

Checked Kraken Facebook. Says prices are about to go up, but that he's having a sale before that happens. Looks like I picked a good time to build!

Also I looked into the EFR. Might actually go that route. Looks like there's a sale on that turbo right now: https://www.full-race.com/store/borg...fr-6258-turbo/

Question on that turbo. There are a bunch of different ways to spec it out on the site. What configuration would you guys recommend given my build list? (This is assuming I switch over to the EFR kraken kit of course)

3in exhaust is only slightly more and offers improved performance, room for upgrades, and a wider potential customer base for resale.

EFR is the best.

Get the 6258 t25 .64 iwg efr turbo.
Call industrial injection in salt lake city, ask for Gavin. Tell him miata turbo special price of $1264.

That's where I got my efr turbo, unbeatable price.

Also on your list you dont have an upgraded clutch. I recommend FM STAGE 1

Or for a few hundred more you can get a complete MKTurbo setup for $4040 shipped in the continental US. Includes a full 3" exhaust with the correct size Magnaflow exhaust, and all the bits and pieces you missed. Proudly hand built in the US and currently has about a week or so lead time depending on what year you have.

Their prices have gone up a bit since you ordered your turbo. They have not had the 6258 for that cheap since last year.

In regards to the GT2560R, this is where I ordered mine form. https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Nissan-...frcectupt=true

Looks to be about $100 less than the site you posted, plus free shipping. Comes with a cool T-shirt too
