looking for a turbo for my megan manifold

Will this turbo work for my megan manifold? I found it on the cheap and know that the megan needs a mitsubishi flange right? the sooner the help the better as you see there is little time left, thx for help.

yup, it would work.

mazda/nissan 06-03-2007 08:39 PM

thanks much, does that sound like a good deal?

neogenesis2004 06-03-2007 08:45 PM

turbo looks pretty tiny to me, what are your power goals?

I'm pretty sure that gen eclipse used a small t25 turbo, I would go for a 14b minimum for a dsm flanged build. You can get those from 1st gen dsm's.

mazda/nissan 06-03-2007 08:50 PM

maybe 8-10 psi for now, just to get me started

neogenesis2004 06-03-2007 08:52 PM

psi's only relation to power is completely dependent on the turbo. So again, what are your power goals? (HP)

mazda/nissan 06-03-2007 08:54 PM

150 to 170 horsepower, i suppose

magnamx-5 06-03-2007 10:29 PM

go for a 16g or 14b you will be hapier with that trust me my 16g goes into boost by 1800 RPM. not laggy at all. 14b would spool even sooner i believe.

I can hook you up with most Mitsu turbos used in good working condition for a good price. I'd suggest a 14B as they can be had very cheap and have better potential than a T25. PM me and I'll see what I can find for you.

For the guys power goals, a T25 from a 2G is a better choice. We are talking a 1.6 motor here guys. I'd imagine 1G 14Bs in good shape are getting pretty hard to find. You gotta remember the cars they came on are 14 years old now. And they were all overboosted and got spider cracks around the WG.

i run a 1.6 whats your point they arent to big

fmowry 06-04-2007 11:13 AM

The T25 is a better turbo for his goals. If you couldn't understand my point, you're retarded. He could run a GT3076 to make 150-170 whp at 4 psi and have a laggy as shit setup and someone could say that they're running it and it isn't too big. That doesn't make it a good choice. That just means someone has done it. The T25 will get him quickly to 200whp with supporting mods. It doesn't have the top end potential of a 16G but it's better mated to a 1.6 for low boost up to 200 whp.

Hardly. Last time I wanted one someone sent me one for free. These turbos are bulletproof and superficial cracking doesn't stop them from working and making 275hp.

thx for all of the help, i've not yet made up my mind for which to buy but the way its going it will most likely be availability as the choosing factor, i just wish i could have used a garret, oh well maybe for my 240:vash:

+1

14b's are tough. The one on my 1G DSM withstood all kinds of stupid shit.

If I had it to do over again, I would have taken my megan manifold to a welding shop and had them reinforce all the welds. I ended up buying a mig welder partially due to all the repairs I had to do to that POS manifold. Just be prepared to take the thing on and off about 50 times for cracking <G>.

FWIW, I got in the habit of starting the car and running my hand around the manifold before it heated up. That way I would know when the next crack had started.

I start boost by 1800 RPM before the build i made boost by 1900-2000 rpm in a car geared like ours how much less lag do you need. Sure my boost is linear and i dont hit 15psi until 4K+ but i have 5 psi by 3K. And at 8 psi 200 whp making alot less heat. The 14b will make more heat at 200 whp 240 or so chp. I see your point but it is mute this is not like comparing a 3071 to a tdo4 or a t3s60. I cant see much advantage in anything more effecient or smaller unless you need boost at 1200 rpm. Also the t25 will most likely need 10-12 psi to hit 200 whp. Just my opinion though.
