Default Project Questions

I have a 92 miata 1.6l. I currently have a greddy turbo kit with a air to air intercooler i installed myself. I have also installed a bov and a cheap bleeder boost controller. I've got about 1000 dollars im gonna spend on my miata and i was just wondering where i should go next. Ive already planning on a springfield dyno exhaust, but after that im a little confused. Ill prolly have to replace my clutch soon, since it was slipping last time i drove it. So after the exhaust, clutch and aluminum flywheel im left with about 400-500 dollars. I was hoping someone could tell me what upgrades coud give me the most hp per dollar since ive only got about 1700 dollars into my car minus the 1300 for the turbo and intercooler.

I was possibly thinking RX7 afm, 1.8 injectors and maybe a msd boost timing computer.

If someone could point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it. I dont really know that much about imports, but the with the high gas prices i cant really afford to drive my camaro as much as i'd like.

You definitely want to upgrade the tiny Greddy downpipe to a 2.5" unit. RM, BEGi, or a user on here by the name of TurboTony are your best bets.

You dont really need the rx7 AFM. Get some 330cc injectors (the car will idle fine), and a Bipes. Along with the down pipe, you will beable to run 9 ish psi with that setup.

As for a clutch, I personally have the Ebay F1 racing stage 3. Holds great, it just grabs alitle quicker when starting rom a stop. Good bang for your buck. I also have the fidanza flywheel, love it.

If I were in your situation, I'd go with a clutch, forget the aluminum flywheel, megasquirt, cheap 2.5" custom exhaust and downpipe. Remainder of $$ would of course be spent on hookers and blow. Oh yeah and some bigger injectors.

The aluminum flywheel isn't suppossed to be desirable in a boosted car, I've never driven a boosted one, but with the one I have in my NA car, I can see how it might suck. A few guys have had decent luck with the F1 stage 3 clutch on Ebay, from the Gripforce-Clutches seller, its a clutchnet product apparently, and only 150 bucks, might be decent for your app since your not going for a huge amount of power.

~220 or so for clutch, rear main seal, tranny seals, new fluid, flywheel resurface.

After a clutch, look into Megasquirt EMS, we have our own in house guys who can build you a Plug and Play, go to the MS section, Braineack and Neogenesis2004 (should be the right username, there is a thread, check it out) or you can get a full PnP from DIYautotune. Neo is building me a PnP harness because I hate doing that stuff...and you'll need a wideband O2 sensor...

Eh...~500ish? or so? depends how good of a deal you can get on an O2 sensor, guys around here LOVE the LC-1...I've got an AEM one waiting to be installed.

With that you can dump all of your bandaids, get a decent downpipe, and either custom make a cheap 2.5" exhaust or find one, and then get bigger injectors.
300-600, depends if you buy new, expensive...used...go cheap...build your own, etc etc...

Injectors, at MOST would cost you like 150 bucks at most, find a PnP injector in your size that you want from Braineacks FAQ, buy a few used...send them to get cleaned/flowtested...there ya go, new injectors.

That that, I'd imagine you could be well into...220ish or more. Ben was making like 250 on a greddy w/ MS and larger injectors, not sure how big his exhaust was though. Stock turbo though.

I've got all of that stuff and no turbo though, lol so what do I know.

if you want the most for your money you are in the right place to ask questions, we are all cheap SOBs, lol
1. get a Megasquirt and hanress from Scott and delete your AFM altogether and have fun tuning your own car
2. get a decent clutch (ACT, Clutchnet, ebay-you choose your budget) and resurface your stock flywheel
3. get a set of bigger injectors-440's 460's you'll be just fine (use the search function to find Braineack's PnP injector list)
4. uprgade your exhaust any which way you can, 2.5" at the least, you may luck out and find some used DP's for cheap and have a local muffler shop build you an cat-back exhaust for cheap out of aluminized steel if you cant afford stainless
5. have fun beating most Camaros with your little girly car
