Mazdaspeed setup on NA 1.8

I did a little browsing and didn't see this question asked, so I'm just gonna make a new thread

A local guy is selling a mazdaspeed turbo setup and I was wondering if I'd have any problems putting it in my 90 with a 94 swap. Is it even worth it?

Search more. There are a lot of small things that are needed to make it work. Water pump outlet being one of them. I would say it is not worth it, but I am a bit biased.

I should probably say that he wants 700 for the whole kit, which to me didn't sound too bad for getting started with forced induction.

That's a great start, and a great turbo setup, IF you only want 200hp. I really, REALLY would suggest not pushing them much further. The turbo is braced nicely to the motormount, make sure you install that.
I think I saw that kit on facebook, and it included all the hardlines and hardware necessary for you, you'd just need to figure out an oil drain (unless you installed a MSM pan and MBSP), and intake/charge pipe plumbing. You're on your own to figure out a few things, like a custom test pipe to connect your NB MSM downpipe to any NA cat back exhaust, and I'd highly suggest keeping the stock rubber elbow that connects to the compressor inlet, and plumbing an intake from there.

Read all of this thread starting here:

Much better intercooler pipes fabbed here:

although our routing requires ditching the headlights.

Thanks for the literature. Skimming through it a bit, looks like this guy did a full msm engine swap. I'm still hoping that installing the turbo on a non-msm 1.8 won't be too much of a hassle.

A 200hp goal seems reasonable and realistic. The miata is my daily right now and I don't want to undertake a huge project. I think turboing it with modest goals is within my range.

Is the kit using the factory MSM ECU? I ask because that was a little annoying piece of the kit with the "bog". However, I'm not sure if people ever solved that since I swapped out the ECU and never looked back. Still got me 200whp at 12psi with that little turbo and stock ECU. It was fun and reliable until you get the itch for more. +1 on the IC piping.

No you would never use the Msm stock ecu with this, just a MS or similar standalone.

if it's cheap enough and the goal is 200-220whp, yeah it'll do the job. Otherwise, better so save the coin.
