Mbc lol
Well, I haven't figured out how to hook up my EBC yet, so thought I would build a DIY MBC via the hardware store. They didn't have everything needed, so I downsized it to 1/8 npt instead of 1/4 npt. The 3/16" ball (instead of 1/4") ball fit great so I went with it.
Well, I think the bore that the ball was in was too close. Started out with it just touching the spring. My car didn't like 250 kPa.:giggle: Fortunately it is beyond pig rich and pretty much just bogged. So, pulled the ball and spring and drilled out the spring/ball pocket in the fitting to offer more air flow around the ball. I blew threw it lightly with the air comressor. The ball buzzes now. Not sure if it will work. Too late for another test drive so pulled the ball and spring and reinstalled. Back to wastegate. Will try again tomorrow.:loser: |
just to be the complete opposite in every way, just had the used hallman hooked up, and right away hit 9.5psi and held, the tuners were surprised how well the hallman/wastegate could hold the psi steady.

I have a hallman as well, it is a very popular mbc in the evo/sti crowd. Got it way before I knew about this place and how cheap you can make your own mbc.:D

honestly, for me its more work to make my own than to buy the ebay one, but i ended up with the hallman from a swap meet for 35 dollars and its the ceramic bearing one with soft spring which is designed for 8-10psi so i got what i knew would be bulletproof for what i was trying to do.

I could/should have ordered an ebay one. I figured, hell, I built everything else on the car, why not? It's gonna get EBC anyway. This is just a boost bug stopgap. |

You should follow the link I posted in that thread. Cant get much easier than buying a grainger valve and adding two fittings on either side.
|
I should have gone that route too.
If I had thought about....we have a Grainger account at work and no one would have noticed. /bad thoughts |
