Miņiata anyone?
Curious if anyone has rolled their own turbo set up based on a Minis? Got a BorgWarner and some bits at a local pick and pull awhile back with the idea to roll my own on my 91. The intercooler seems ideal size to fit in the mouth.
Been there done that? Bad idea? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...59b592bd9.jpeg |
Bad idea.

Why?
Got some reasoning to add?

That is my reasoning. |
Rule #1: building a setup around some crappy completely non-fitting junk yard setup from a different car is a very dumb idea.

Thanks!

Do you know how to weld? Are you hand fabricating everything yourself from scratch? Because that manifold will never work. No one makes a manifold that will work with that turbo, and that IC with the pointing up outlets will probably not work.

Not worth it.
So, I went down this road since I had a turbo that I replaced on my Countryman S. It's not worth the hassle. Like a few others have said, you'll have to fabricate your own manifold. That Mini variant of the K03 turbo has known wastegate issues as well and will eventually stop building boost. It's is also very small so you'll build boost fast, but it falls off after 4500 RPM or so you'd lose the Miata high revving goodness, Better to sell that stuff and pick up a cheap T25 kit if you want to go the cheap route.

Thanks!
