The Miata is finally running! Now I have an EGR issue..
 

Finally got the car running with the new setup (finally got off my @$$ and finished it). I used the EGR adapter BEGi sells, so my EGR tube is hooked up. Heres the odd part, the car BARELY idles when I have the vacuum line hooked up to the EGR solenoid, pretty much sounds like I have some aggresive cams, no vacuum on the gauge either. Doesnt matter whether or not the solenoid is actually plugged in or not. If I pull the vacuum line off, it idles like a champ, vacuum returns to normal. Put it back on, it kills. Any ideas? I didn't have this problem when the car last ran 5 months ago, so I don't think its likely that the solenoid has failed and gotten stuck or something.. Although I wouldnt have thought that it could have blown a caliper piston seal just sitting there either but that managed to happen..

if im not mistaken, the vacuum line should be going to a control solenoid. An EGR that sees vacuum when it's not supposed to will make the car run like total ass and/or not run at all. 1) you're running hot ass air into the engine 2) that air is unmetered.

The electrical plugs going into the EGR don't actuate the pindle they are there for sensors inside the valve.

I had a egr that went bad. It would just flip open and shut all the time.

Best fix for an EGR is to pull it out and throw it away. BEGI has block off plates.

Then pull the CEL bulb out.

Heres a question. Does the check engine light ever come on if you are using a Megasquirt ecu?

it shouldn't, I get an AFM code at startup and goes away.


only other code ive seen is from cruising too lean for a subtained period of time, as soon as it got rich again it was fine.

mine is on but i suspect it has something to do with no NB signal, or afm signal etc.

Theres an AFM code light?

Ok hold on a second im confused. If you replaced the computer entirely with a megasquirt, does the MS have the ability to send a signal to the CEL light?

Are you guys using both a MS and the factory ECU?

I'm using both, ecu controls fans and idle, I could easily get rid of it. and yes 8 flashes on mine means air flow meter, which makes sense, cause i dont have one anymore.

Figured it out, stupid mistake. Let my friend mess with the vacuum lines to free up two nipples off the manifold.. Turns out he had the vacuum line going straight from the manifold to the EGR valve, so it was constantly on. Argh. Thanks for the help guys, maby next time i'll actually look at where the lines are coming from lol.

While on the topic of vacuum lines.. I have my FMU T'd into the supply line to the EGR solenoid, does it cause enough of a vacuum drop to affect the FMU? I figure it shouldnt matter much, maby when I get off cruise and the EGR shuts off..

Vac has no effect on most aux fmu's so long as it sees boost it will work when the boost is gone the pressure goes back down you should be fine

Does anyone remember which way the check valve goes on the BEGi FMU (the line that doesnt connect to a vacuum source)? It doesnt specify in their manual.

air should blow out, cant get sucked back into it.
