Miotta out doing what it was built for. Autobahn Country club

On short notice, I attended an event this last Sunday. It was thrown by Autobarn Mazda/MOCA/Mazda and held at Autobahn Country club on the North course. It was by far and away the highest caliber of instructors I've ever had the pleasure of driving with. MX5 cup champs/Skip Barber instructors etc... seriously amazing talents. Kept pushing all of us to trailbrake everywhere... wtf weren't my past instructors as pushy... dammit.

Anyways... Got 2 clean sessions and 1 partially* clean session. Car was a blast to drive, it beat up on Intermediate group so they bumped me to advanced for the 3rd... got fun there ;)

I'll be reloading/cutting 2 of the videos... both are the first part of 2 sessions... sadly enough... one is too long and the majority of session 2.

Here is the 'album'

I HIGHLY recommend "Fun with hoodpins" ;)

Only things I found to fix were... Hood.. ;), manifold/wg bolts went bye bye somewhere during hoodless time and melting wheel weights off.

:bigtu: Holy shit, the other cars looked like they were standing still on the overtakes :skid: Looks like the Miotta is a very formidable track car. And I love the very inventive method of reducing weight during racing. Accident.. I think not! :)

Me? No clue. I'd guess ~200. I haven't turned up the boost yet either. Still on 10.x psi.

I'm surprised they'd let your car into a country club. :D

kotomile 06-25-2008 11:37 AM

WOW dude I had that happen to me in my Civic, I considered the car totaled afterwards, the hood and windshield, and part of the roof, were FUBAR. You were really lucky!

Have you ever carried a picnic basket in the trunk of you car?

Vashthestampede 06-25-2008 01:20 PM

Damn!!! That was crazy. :eek5: Lucky you didn't have any damage, minus the hood. Did the hood itself snap or did the hood hinges come with?

Awesome vids! :bigtu:

The Miata/country club comments are kind of funny to me, my parents live in a country club and my dad's my autocrossing partner. We have a pretty good collection of letters from the Homeowner's Association telling us to stop working on cars in the driveway.

I know the neighbors loved me when I was 18, outside at 6:30 AM on a tuesday, clearancing my CRX's framerail with the BFH for the swap...

It actually ripped the hinge at the joint. So the bottom was on the car and the rest was on the hood. The Loop of metal that goes around the joint was ripped open and looking pacmanish. It then nicely wrapped itself upside down over the A piller on the passenger side, mostly off the side of the car and stayed there :p

I've never heard of a racetrack even in the "country club" format disallowing any car. I'd be super pissed.

I think none of them would, unless they are cars that wouldn't pass tech.

Wait a minute....the hood stayed on the car? It didn't fly off onto the track?!

That's crazy man! lol. But hey, like you said in the video, now you can get that fiberglass one you wanted!
