So i have a TD04-13, 12mm water hose, 14mm x 1.5 to 12mm barbs, with a 14mm tap.
Considering the turbo has 12mm inlets / outlets. I have pulled the radiator, will move the AC and i'm planning to drill and tap the thermo housing and the coolant outlet to 1/2 inch (12.6?) and tap it to 14mm thread. Will simply close off the throttle body inlet, as it never gets below 10'C here.

Just measured the current housings and they seem to be 18mm at the thinnest point. Will 2mm on either side of the thread be enough to hold the barb?

Any reason why i shouldn't?

1/2 to 3/8 reducers cost $6, with $40 shipping to australia (or a 2-4 week wait). So i'm kinder out of options... unless i use two barbs with a brass joiner which ends up being $30 a pop and defeats the purpose of a 1/2 hose.

Why do you need a 1/2" hose? Almost everyone uses a 3/8" and it works just fine.

A 1/2 to 3/8 reducer should be a hardware store item.

I want to use 1/2 cause i have the bloody equipment already and otherwise i need to work out what thread the turbo is and find a suitable attachment. At the moment they are Subaru banjo fittings with brass 1/2 ends.

And reducers.... Not in Australia.
I'm a carpenter, i know my way around hardware stores.
Ain't seen any reducers in performance shops either. Always a simple 3/8 to 3/8 etc.

Ther'es none on ebay australia... Only international...

Maybe a hydraulics shop...ill call a few tomorrow.

The threads are M12x1.25.

They are ridiculously difficult to find fittings for, other than banjos. Everything is normally M12x1.5. I ended up making my own 8mm / 5/16" barbs.

Oddly enough though, I recall the 1 option I found, being in AUS.... but was $30 plus $30 shipping or something stupid like that.

2mm wall should hold, but that's close. Also, 1/2" water lines are retarded. I would personally find a way to just keep the 8mm barb on the housing, and do what you have to at the turbo to make an 8mm line work.

Not hard to make. If you can find a bolt that size/thread just drill out the middle and weld a male AN bung to the bolt head and just run -6 (3/8) fittings and push lock hose

Failing that buy some 3/8 hose unions and cut them down the middle and have the brazed/welded to the current banjo fittings

Unfortunately China is 2-4 weeks away.
Looks like I'm daisy chaining a bunch of brass fittings. With 2 separate hose sizes.

Brillant. Didn't think of that.
I ended up just welding 8mm stainless tube to 12mm tube and beading the ends.
