MSM turbo on NA. Worth it?

So I acquired a bucket of MSM parts and am deciding what to do with them. A friend had these parts included with the sale of his Miata but decided to go FMII. I am completely new to turbo Miatas, but have owned a stock NA for a few years and do have a goal to eventually turbo it with an hp goal of around 200whp. I have a 97 1.8 stock.
Online research has been mixed with most people saying not to bother using anything from the MSM. However, since all of this stuff was free I would be losing nothing by using at least some of these parts. So here I am. My first question is if this is even worth pursuing with what I currently have? Supposedly it's the stock turbo, manifold, oil/coolant lines, FM catless downpipe, catch can mounted to MSM strut brace with lines, turbo heat shield, turbo brace, ebay intercooler, and most of the gaskets and bolts/fittings the MSM had for it's turbo stuff. What was said to be missing for a complete kit would be a standalone, injectors, fuel pump and boost/AFR gauges. Will any of this get me near 200whp? Again most of my research says ditch the manifold and turbo asap. But could this possibly be a cheap reliable turbo kit that I upgrade as time goes on? I don't see any of this stuff for sale too often. Should I even bother trying to sell it if it's as garbage as they say or do I have a bunch of scrap metal? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1467514380 |
It is doable, but a lot more effort to get working then really worth it. There are a lot of small things that are needed to get it working that are missing. They generally sell between $500-$1000 depending on how complete it is.
