Muffler Advice

After being scolded for wanting to run a baffled muffler on my turbo set up.....How dare I. :noob: Now I find myself looking at mufflers. What is suggested? I hate fart cans and wont run one. I have done a search on mufflers but have found little information.

Any help would be appreciated.

Look up what Braineack did.

you want the biggest "straight through" muffler you can find.

I like the magnaflow because of the stainless wrap and packing.

/\ This. Best overall blend of sound/performance

^yes. After two other mufflers I went with a giant magnaflow. Thread. Spool improvement with magnaflow.

Might try checking one of these out.

I personally like vibrant. I've owned a few of them and like them better than magnaflow. In my experience, they are quieter low in the power band making it more bearable for every day type driving.

I appreciate the input guys! My routing already incorporates two sweeping bends. (think mandrel u pipe cut in two and welded to create a "s" bend to get the exhaust over to the driver side of the car, where there is room in the tunnel for exhaust. Do you think putting more bends in is going to be detrimental to performance?

You can go with the smaller can magna and run it straight out the back. I did that with both a flowmaster and raptor turbo muff. You can fit a 14" can between the bumper and subframe/diff running parallel to the driveshaft. I put a flange in to swap between the muff and straight pipe laid out just that way.

Decided to go with the big magnaflow. I will fab the exhaust with a removable section from the pumpkin to the exit point so I can do a pull without the tailpipe muffler section to see if it cost me any HP if it cost a substantial amount of power I will have to rethink my exhaust solution.

bigger = better

with your powerplant and turbo setup I somehow doubt you'll be able to even push it to the limits let alone tell a difference in power:giggle:

your shit is CRAZY:)

Braineack 07-01-2010 03:25 PM

I technically made more power after fitting the larger muffler, only because i replaced my broken ass trans at the same time...I needed WAY more fuel in boost.

I know, I am going to have way more power in high boost than I can get to hook up. But one of my goals, and the reason I went with an elt manifold instead of a log style, is I am looking for economy of boost pressure. I want the most hp for the lowest amount of boost possible. My plan is to tune high boost to 450 whp. If I can hit that mark at 14# instead of 17# all the better!

Brain, I love noise at the track but really nowhere else. Since my car really won't be a track bitch...have a SM for that. I want quite. I needed ear plugs to drive my car NA because of the flowmaster design. I am looking forward to the car being quite. I hope I don't loose to much on the dyno.

I will be shamelessly copy y8s's design.

have no shame! I'm far too stupid to make money off of my cleverness. have at it!
