I didn't want to jack the other thread, but wanted to know what everyone thinks.

I have a FM DP (old style non-divorced)

FM 2.5" stainless midpipe, resonator and highflow cat

The midpipe is used and the PO had a Flowmaster muffler welded onto it. I guess you could say welded-more like MIG-crapped. Anyone have any idea what this is going to sound like? Would there be a better choice for a muffler? For me, if the thing sounded dead stock, it would be perfect. A bit louder is fine, but I don't want something loud or drony. I put 20K/year on this car with most of it interstate at 4,000 rpm. I'll probably try this combo, but already concerned. The PO said it was louder and that it "sounded good" but he was 20.

it'll probably be fairly quite. the transition is horrible and the muffler itself will prove to hurt the performance.

Yeah, they did a hatchet job. I have more 2.5" mandrel bends than I will use for my IC install, so IF I keep it, it will be redone. You think that muffler will be a significant restriction at 180-190 WHP or whatever I can get from stock injectors on the Zoom3? That's all this car will see.

Oh god..... You said mufflers.

I'm ready to take a right half way up a tall bridge in my car right now. I have a header, 3" exhaust, no cat, 3 long glasspacks, and a wide open magnaflow. It's all wide open. Loud as *****. Sucks. I hate it. It gives me headaches. I will absolutely be changing it soon.

I've done a good bit of research on mufflers lately. Some dynomax super turbo muffler is supposed to be one of the quietest 3" mufflers around, but it's pricey. Then there's a Summit Racing brand turbo muffler in 3" for ~30 bucks. This will likely be the one I try, though I hear mixed reviews about its performance in the quiet department.

That, or the stock muffler is going back on. Truthfully, it sounded better. And of course it was quieter. I'm thinking about cutting off the old 2.whatever inch inlet to it and welding my 3" into it, and let the old outlet stay. I do wonder how much backpressure it would cause at 250 or 300 whp. I dunno, but I hate loud.

And anyone that says "you're a ***** whatever I dd a loud fart can and blah blah cause I'm cool yeah" well, sure. I appreciate my hearing and I don't like loud exhaust.

Pat just put the turbo on already.

I had a JR header and a Borla dual exhaust before I was turboed. **** was annoying loud:

We got to the point where we'd try to coast up hills it was so loud and annoying.

enter turbo:

what exhaust? can't hear it.

I'm running the 3" enthuza with the old school ANSA muffler. It's pretty **$*%*$&#( loud and I don't like it all that much. I have a 3" 300 cell cat I think I'm going to have welded in this week if I can. It's super droning on the interstate and unacceptable in terms of loudness for me. I absolutely hate it when the top is down and I'm trying to listen to music on the interstate.
I should take a sound clip. Maybe i'll go do that now.

I got a 2.5inch begi-s downpipe, 2.5 inch magnaflow cat, and a 2.5 inch exhaust with a dynaflow muffler and its perfect. Not too quiet, and not too loud. Doesnt drone.

john, that muffler looks a lot like the one I used to run. it was drony on the freeway right at cruise. i swapped it for something bigger and LOVE it.

VERY tolerable. sounds a little bit more aggressive than stock and still roars when I romp on it.

this is the big momma 22something inch magnaflow.

Bandit: Sorry, I can't get youtube at work SonicWall block FTL. I'll check tomorrow night at the hotel.

Matt: I was afraid of the drone. I'll keep the Magnaflow in mind.

Pat, I had no idea how you couldn't keep your exhaust quiet, then I remembered your turbo is in your avatar, not your car. I put 2.5" exhaust from downpipe back when I was NA, through a no-name 2.5" cat and magnaflow 2.5" muffler. it was too loud for NA, but once I put a turbo on (no other exhaust changes, and that included a 2.5" downpipe) it was barely louder than stock. Like stock with a slight gurgle added, I loved it.

But its not for track days, so I cut everything off after the cat

I have the same 3" Enthusa with the Ansa that Chad has and I really don't think it's all that loud. The car certainly sounds modified, but it's not obnoxious. I'd put it on par with a stage 2 STI. I have a cat, though.

There are a couple of sound clips in my Youtube acccount. I'm getting a testpipe for xmas so I'll take a before/after clip to see how it changes the sound. I'm running a 3" Magnaflow metal core right now.

Post a link, i'm lazy sav. I have that same cat to install and I'm just want to drop it a few decibels compared to what it is now. By no means is it overly loud but I want to make it a little more quiet.
