My chinacharger project

Ok gentelmens, I bought a Godspeed gt25 (to replace a M45 JRSC) that has a oil floating bearings. Must I put a restrictor in the feed line or this is only for the ball bearing units?

Another question is that while both, the turbo and the manifold had a T25 flange, the hole in the turbo is slightly smaller than the one in the manifold, do you think is a good idea to do some gasket matching porting here in order to improve the spool?

Thanx,
Ben.

Posts deleted. No newb bashing on this one, ok? He's asking intelligent questions using proper grammar and punctuation, and has obviously done some homework.

You probably do not need an oil restrictor. If you find that you are pumping oil past the shaft seals then I was wrong.

I can't say I've ever heard of anybody port-matching the turbine to the manifold, but then I don't think I've ever seen anybody observe this particular problem. Couldn't hurt, so long as there's sufficient iron around the area you're cutting into. You don't want to thin the wall too much.

I do not have a restrictor on my T25 but its a garrett so who knows. I think you're fine though without one. Ball Bearing turbos certainly do need a restrictor.

I haven't had that problem with any of the garrett turbos i've built manifolds for. This is an interesting observation. I think people with chinachargers might want to take a look and see if they've got this same issue. Port match that sucker for sure and please post before/after pics if you can.

I'm running the Godspeed GT28R turbo. I have a -4an line coming off an oil sandwich plate with no restrictori. No problems at all. I also have a big drain though, -10AN to a welded -10AN bung on my oil pan.

I ran the same setup on a Garrett T25 with no issues as well.

I got the EBAY branded JDM (LOL) turbocharger T3/T4, have had it for about a year now with a EBAY oil restrictor as well.

Do yourself a favor and run a restrictor. Myself and several other forum members have found that a pop rivet works well. My chinacharger has started blowing just a tad bit of smoke recently due to me not running one from the start.

I am currently going through a rebuild after not following forum suggestions.

15 psi with 10@1 cast pistons with an EBAy chinacharger resulted in 3 bent rods, no detonation.

Just make sure you always have fresh oil as you dont want that restrictor to get clogged whatsoever, and the hole is tiny tiny ...

MAZPR your signature should be "when the boost kicks in its like vtec on steroids!"
i thought oil restrictors were only for ball bearing turbos and journal bearings need alot of oil to suspend the bearing in oil so do without a restrictor.no?

Off topic: Thanks.

Typically this is true. I'm not sure that it's so much a matter of ball-bearing turbos not being able to withstand as much oil flow as that journal-bearing turbos simply require more flow, and thus we typically do not restrict their inlets. (This is only a hunch, I have no data to support it.)

I would start out with no restricter. If you find that you are having problems with oil being forced past the seals, then you can add one. If not, it's better to run without.

Ok Gents, so far, based in your inputs here, I will start without restrictor with AN2 for the oil feed and AN10 for the drain.

Also I'll port the turbine inlet to match the manifold as is a very small amount of offending material to be removed, so this won't jeopardize the structural integrity of the case and the flow will be improved. Tomorrow I'll post some pics so you'll know what I'm talking about.

Thank you very much for your help.

P.D. Attn. Leatherface: sorry for my answer to you. I've seen your V-Intercoler post and I'm very impressed with your talented work. Congrats.

Ben.

Agree with all of the above, but keep in mind that you can also drill the fitting (and it even comes with instructions to modify depending on psi application).

Are you talking about oil pressure or boost pressure?
