KPLAFIN 09-12-2008 04:01 PM

Saml01 09-12-2008 04:06 PM

Arkmage 09-12-2008 09:11 PM

yes, i did everything with a miller 180sd.

MikeRiv87 09-13-2008 12:15 AM

Welcome and nice pics. I would love to get another 7 but i don't ever seeing it happen. If you don't mind me asking how did you land here?

Good stuff, great welder. I'm considering a miller dynasty myself. Mostly for the variable frequency to make aluminum easier.

i've been here a little while, just not posting a lot. some of the guys over at hmt wanted some bp and b6t flanges for their miatas. i thought i'd sign up and try and help out when someone posts something that i have experience with.

I've got Miller 180sd how come my welds don't look like that?

weir 09-13-2008 10:57 AM

using a gas lense helps greatly. i also don't weld more than about 3/4" at a time... then i move on to another spot and weld, so there is time for it to cool inbetween beads. i'll even go and do other stuff while the welds cool a bit and then go back to it. i find it helps with preventing warping a lot. anywhere you see a gold colored spot is the end of a bead. i have my post flow set at 8 seconds, but that is probably a little on the short side. don't pull the torch away until the post flow stops.

TravisR 09-13-2008 12:00 PM

I didn't even know those existed thats really interesting. What gas do you use? Do you use pure tungsten? If I remember right I use red on metals, green on aluminum. I can't remember what alloy that is... Also, what do you do for fume extraction. I'm tired of getting buzzes from welding. I've tried fans and everything else to no avail.

weir 09-13-2008 07:06 PM

no fume extraction here. i'm using 100% argon, same tungsten as you (red and green). you can get the gas lense setup on ebay from algvtech i think is his user name. i get a lot of that stuff from him. really cheap.

dp done:

KPLAFIN 09-13-2008 08:28 PM

That's pretty damn impressive, you'll have to get us some pictures of the car that will have the privilege to hold it.

johndoe 09-13-2008 08:47 PM

so when are you going to start making manifolds/downpipes for miatas?

Fireindc 09-13-2008 09:25 PM

Yeah, +1 pics of the car!

KPLAFIN 09-14-2008 12:51 AM

I think that is by far THE most bad ass 1st generation RX-7 I have ever seen.

+1 on manifolds/downpipes for miatas, I'd wait in line for one if they look like that.

messiahx 09-16-2008 04:43 PM

:jerkit: Wow that is one hot RX-7! Do you have more pics? Widebody + spoiler FTW!

I don't see a rollbar or cage, so I'm assuming this will be a street/autox/occasional track day car?

reins 09-16-2008 05:33 PM

Wow, that's a nice project.

Saml01 09-16-2008 07:35 PM

wow sex.

He does, and has. Just custom, one off stuff.

Weir (Aaron) does awesome work. Everyone local who has dealt with him, gives glowing reviews. I haven't personally been by, but I will at some point.

Fireindc 09-16-2008 07:46 PM

WOW, more pics of first gen rx7, that is the hottest one i have ever seen. Sick fucking car you are putting together man, /jealous.

TurboTim 09-16-2008 09:19 PM

Aaron, very nice!! Makes me want to go weld something :)

Makes me want to learn to weld!

steves2k 09-17-2008 04:15 AM

Do you do single pass or double pass on the EL's? Also, do you still have any 1.6L Miata or T25 flanges for sale?

944obscene 09-17-2008 10:15 AM

That RX7= two towels... plz. I have motivation to live now.

ApexOnYou 09-17-2008 10:55 AM

So that's going in a FB? My rotary knowledge is rusty.

:edit: nevermind that pic didn't load for me before. That car is sick.
