My first turbo...

So...

I was cruising eBay looking for the Markp Chinacharger special when I happened across this ad. The seller was local and a quick Google search served up his name, address, and phone number.

Nature took it's course, and I picked up a brand new GT3071R for $650.
:yippee::yippee::yippee::yippee::yippee:

 Tis the *real* GT3071R with 60mm of turbine goodness baked right in.

So now I need to find a good deal on a turbine housing for this bad boy. Any suggestions?

call atp. get the smallest A/R you can

If you're in a hurry, call up blaastperformance, he might hook you up with one for a decent price. He won't let you steal it but he seems to be a pretty cool guy about things like that.

Markp 12-11-2007 11:41 PM

Nice!

MazDilla 12-12-2007 12:50 AM

Thanks cj, I'll check out blaast.
I can wait a few months to find a good deal. I just don't know the best places to go looking.

This is the cheapest retail option I have found... T31 2.5" V-Band
$250 @ ATP (WOT can knock a few bucks off that.)

For not much more ATP has a T3 .78AR twin scroll 3" V-Band housing which might be interesting. Both of these are older non-GT housings though, and I'm a little concerned about loosing the efficiency of the GT wheel.

The "proper" housing for this turbo is the GT 4-bolt. (machined for V-band in the photo below). Look at that nice smooth flared 3" outlet.
$380 @ ATP

For the same money TialSport offers a beautiful cast SS housing with V-Band inlet & outlet. But paying to have a V-Band manifold custom fabbed probably doesn't make sense.

You guys know of other housings worth considering or better deals?
Care to comment on GT vs non-GT housings?

I was going to go with a gt2871r with the tial housing, but they don't make it yet for the ns111 turbine. Its premo pimp!

Instead I am currently bidding on an evo8 16g. I have the ability to make my own manifold and stuff though.

nester 12-12-2007 01:21 AM

I don't think we have any online, but I am sure I can get you a housing as well from Turbochargers.com.

MazDilla 12-17-2007 10:39 PM

PM'ed you nester. No luck or was I supposed to contact turbochargers.com?

nester 12-17-2007 10:54 PM

shit. I have been trying to get this info for a couple days, I am the fails.

I will find sonmething out tomm.

an evo 8 mani would be interesting...let us know the update on that nester...sorry for going off topic

IMO the vband IS worth it - superior to a normal flange in every way.

Ya, I thought so too... but... NEVERMIND... I had a horror story about what can happen to an unattended V-band housing.

Mark, do tell...

Do the V-band flanges distort with heat and time like regular flanges?

I always hear about folks needing to mill manifold and turbo flanges flat before reassembling, but it doesn't seem like you can mill a V-band flange because it would become too thin for the clamp.

Or does the 360* nature of the clamp prevent warpage?

Markp 12-20-2007 06:19 PM

Nah, I can't, it's a little personal and it has nothing to do with distortion under heat or any mechanical issues. It's like coming home to the mailman nailing your wife, you feel a little violated. ;)
