My fueling needs
 

I have searched and read and am still quite confused so hopefully you guys can lend a hand. I am about to turbo my 2001 miata with a gt2860rs and most likely i will end up using a standalone either aem or the hydra. I am confused about what i will need for fueling; ive done the math on injectors so i know what size i will need for my power goals (200rwhp @8psi). What about a rising rate fuel pressure regulator? will i need one of those? A friend told me that i will however in my head i cant see why. I figure that if you use the right size injecors you should be able to have a steady rate of fuel pressure and tune the rest.

That's usually how it works. When you run standalone, with large injectors you won't need the FMU to control your fueling. That is as long as the injectors are large enough of course.
Don't rule out Megasquirt as a standalone option either. It's about 1/4 the cost of the Hydra as long as you don't mind DIY soldering. When looking into running a standalone you also need to keep in mind your VVT I think. Not sure if you can leave that to be controlled by the stock ecu in a parallel setup or not.

unless you modify your fuel system you can run a fmu. this is alot of the reason people have been so slow to FI NB's electronics with bigger injectors is your only option barring a redo of the fuel system to convert it to a return style and not dead head wich you have good luck.

Opps, same reason I went the larger injector route on mine actually, not sure how I spaced that.
Some people are doing the return style fuel system swap on NB's using NA fuel lines and the like or routing their own custom setup to be able to use an FMU.

no fpr...... rx7 460cc injectors will do it. Hydra can control your VVt.

for safety's sake you could go with RC 550's, and a walboro 190......

listen to airbrush get the biggest injectors you can handle. the headroom will come in handy.
