My less-than-traditional gauge setup.

Function over form. Drilled holes in the gauge pod (scary) and used screws (scarier) to bolt the gauge pods in. EGT, boost, WB, oil temps clockwise from the lower left. |
you gave your dash ears....now it looks like a hippo in that pic.
or mickey mouse.
gauge hoods R cheep. nice work.
PS I miss mtn view. PPS I hate bottle brush trees. |
I like it.
thats a good way to set it up for a racecar, but idunno if I would like it on a street car. Looks pretty nice in the picture but last time I got in my car I imagined how it would look and was glad I got the god damn expensive but nice ddm piece on the way.
I'm not totally in love with the look, but you cannot beat the visibility. This car was designed from the start as a race car that can still be used on the street. Stick stuff in the radio, or the eyeball vents, and you have to LOOK at the gauge, not glance at it.
I could have done A-pillar gauges, but FUCK a-pillar mounts. Rice to the max. :( |
Volts gauge + amps gauge in A pillar = Rice.
Boost gauge + Wideband gauge in A pillar = OK. I have an A pillar mount because it was the only clean way to put gauges in my line of sight. In your case where you have 4 gauges I like the way you did it. It would be slick if there were gauge pods grafted to the gauge hood. Obviously that is further than you wanted to take it. Looks good. |
Are your hands in 10 and 2 o'clock position covering these gauges?
hrk |
I've never been able to cover the gauges with my hands on the wheel. I usually drive at 9-3 anyway.
I really like that setup, it looks very easy to read and functional, but as miataspeed said I don't think it would work very well with just 2 gauges. I may do this if I ever have the $ to get an oil temp gauge, or just use and eyeball vent and keep the a-pillar dual.
Ooh look Philip. Zip ties!
Pretty sure there is a company that made a gauge hood with 2 gauge pods molded into it. That and and A-pillar would be clean.
ZIP TIESSSSS FTW... you might as well get some creativity with the colored zip ties, white ones are out of style... BTW those gauge thingies look alright... lmao, i'm kidding bro, but cover those ties...
The zip ties are 'temporary' since 6 weeks ago. The boost gauge screws came out at Buttonwillow and I had to secure it somehow. I've been too lazy to take the hood out and put a bolt in :P
why are the ties there? from the picture it looks like they already have a brace attached to the gauge pod no? because i see no ties on the right side:dunno:
The boost gauge pod isn't screwed down. It's ziptied to the EGT gauge because the screws came out.
oh, so one gauge is ziptied to the other.... run out of screws or like the look? just wondering because the right side looks damn purdy
