my na8 turbo build

hey guys. im starting a na8 turbo build. im from south africa. on this side of the world miata/mx5 is scares. also no aftermarket parts avalable for mx5.
so far i have gathered a k04 turbo 440cc bosch injectors. 2 rx7 intercoolers spitronics stand alone ecu. had a button clutch built.
il be fabricating an turbo manifold as their is no turbo manifolds avalable for the bp motor.
im going to start the build soon. i just wanted to know about ure thought and opinions on the build im doing.

How much is important tax?

wayne 09-07-2016 09:55 AM

im not sure but i dont want to import parts. i have all the main parts already. and like fabricating things. half of the joy of owning a miata is building it ;-)

ryansmoneypit 09-07-2016 10:03 AM

Ok, but I warn you this: you will spend about the same or more to fab your own manifold and downpipe, as you will if you buy one.

List your goals for us please. Hp, intended use, budget, fab ss and equipment you have access to.

wayne 09-07-2016 10:31 AM

i have build a miata before was 1.6 with ct 20 turbo. 6psi. rasing rate fuel presure regulator. it made 105kw on wheels.
il post some photos and u tube links later. was running good for 2 years no problems. unfortunatlly i had to sell it due to financial problems
This time round i want to do things properly. i want to make 150-170 wkw on 12 psi. like i said i already have stand alone ecu and 440cc injectors

the ebay manifolds is about 3 to 4 thousand rand. it cost me 300 rand to make my own manifold last time ;-)
and it was a branch manifold. il post pics later

ryansmoneypit 09-07-2016 10:38 AM

Ok, so eBay stuff is junk anyway. A quality unit from the US would be like 14,000 Rand. Exchange rate is terrible.
Carry on, let's see what you can do. I'm curious to see what 25 bucks (300R.) gets you in S.Africa

wayne 09-07-2016 10:52 AM

haha cool. il post photos later of manifold ive built last time

pick is short for moron.

wayne 09-07-2016 02:42 PM

lol. so ryan how is that for a 25 bucks manifold??

shuiend 09-07-2016 02:44 PM

What did you make those bends out of for that manifold. For $25 it does not look bad at all. If you can weld and fabricate building a budget setup is much easier.

wayne 09-07-2016 02:51 PM

ya it is. u can buy those 90 degree bends thats moulde like that for 20rand eatch.welded them together

shuiend 09-07-2016 02:53 PM

Do you grind down the welds after you are done to make it look smooth and such?

wayne 09-07-2016 02:55 PM

but i wont make a branch manifold again. good for power. but its a lot of work. took me 2 weeks to make that. and also not good for heat in engine bay.

wayne 09-07-2016 02:57 PM

yes. u make the colectoe at the turbo. make al the pipes. weld them up. grind them flush. then weld the pipis on to the colector and on to the flange at engine. lot of work bud. lol

18psi 09-07-2016 02:57 PM

it looks like an octopus
faefae would be so proud

wayne 09-07-2016 03:01 PM

yes. u make the colector at the turbo out of 4 90 degree bends. then u make the pipes. grind them flush. then weld the pipes up to the colectoe and to the flange at the head. lot of work. . . .lol but saves money

I touched Fae's car yesterday.

wayne 09-07-2016 03:02 PM

hahah ya

wayne 09-07-2016 03:02 PM

il post pics and updates with the new build over the next few weeks.

ryansmoneypit 09-07-2016 04:00 PM

Pretty good man. Looks like you are using cast flanges? The one to the turbo looks that way. Can't see what you used for a flange on the head. Welding cast has a few tricks for long life.
My only real gripe is grinding welds. Generally a fab/engineering no no. You loose a lot of strength at an already crack prone location.
Good work though

wayne 09-08-2016 01:58 AM

yes cast flanges. but this time round il just be making a normal manifold not a branch manifold.
il be getting back the nb,s head tomorrow. send it in for refurbish. il be rebuilding the motor before turbo conversion.
