NB Intercooler Routing
 

I swear I've seen it 100 times, but I can't find the threads anywhere. Are there any good ways to route the intercooler pipes on an NB that aren't possible on the NA because of the headlights? I think I remember reading about it years ago but I didn't pay any attention because I had a '94 at the time. Pictures would be great, or a link to an old thread or something.

A few people on here have done this but this is the best pictures I've found. I'm gonna try and go this route but I don't know if you have to modify the headlight something.

I like his hot-side, but why didn't he do the same with the cold-side? I also like 18psi's style... and ride height. I aspire to both in some degree.

Reason I mounted the cold side traditionally is cause its a pretty easy/direct path already and I didn't want to chop a big ass hole in the untouched passenger side sheetmetal (drivers side already has a hole there that I just enlarged a little bit).

I have had ZERO issues with my current IC routing and like it a lot. Won't be changing it ever.

Only thing I'd do differently is the AIT sensor location. I'd extend the wiring and mount it in the intercooler end tank because it heat soaks behind the rad/fan.

just realized that neither side is that hot. but hotside means intake manifold side.

Uh, opposite world is opposite?

I thought hotside was where hot air comes in, where the hot turbo is, and generally the hotter side of the intercooler. That'd be the exhaust side.

I think you got that backwards?

Any decent lower piping shots for NA's? I only want lower cos my car will be a stealth setup, very low mount turbo, big heatsheild, airbox still in just to help cover the area. I think ill go around next to the sway bar then around rad on cold side straight up to the TB with 2 90's.

Thoughts?

There's a TON of turbo NAs on the forums, your best bet is go to the build thread section and read for the next three months. Just keep reading threads, not necessarily just recent threads, people have been turboing NAs for many years:laugh:

Why the "stealth" build? I guess you could mount it normal but upside down but even then you would either still see it or wouldn't get airflow. If you didn't get airflow it would just be a heat sync and wouldn't need to be mounted in the front.

Also some people that want a less conspicuous front mount just paint it black.

Im a provisional driver in australia which means i have to display plates telling police im not allowed to drive a car with forced induction or more than six cylinders. Ive got most of the build together including a bla k intercooler. Its mounted at the moment and you. Cant see it but the piping is hard. I obviously cant run an over the rad setup and i dont want under for clearance and because you can see it. The piping will be painted black and i just wanted to be spoon fed a few photos. Ill search like a good noobie.

There was a FI civic in some magazine (GRM?) a while ago that had a stealth setup. Stock airbox and all, actually used a stock Miata exhaust heat shield over the turbo, and I think the airbox actually housed the BOV.

If you actually go through with this stealth setup, you would probably be the first to actually finish what they set out to do, although you may also be finished with your provisional driving period. How long does that last?

There was one guy who was banned who had a pretty stealthy setup, though his might have only been stealthy with the hood closed. He went so far as to hide a narrowband gauge in the steering column.

You could do a water-air ic and hide it behind the bumper or something. Or I suppose depending on your boost level and run no ic, route the charge pipe through the air box or something, put the bov in the air box and shielding over the mani/turbo but realistically if they open the hood your hosed. Cop would figure out something's wrong. Might as well do it right under the hood but hide the i/c.

You got your coldside right.
We're lucky here in OZ as there's no steering rack to get in the way.
For my hotside i shot a 90 straight back towards the firewall, then a 180 through the void where the cradle sits and into the wheel well. Then straight between the shock and cradle again before a 90 into the intercooler.

This allowed me to keep a/c and p/s with no pipes in the engine bay to raise suspicions. A cut down Daihatsu applause air filter housing will fit in the stock location (this is for a 1.6).

Also a lower radiator hose that fits and is the right size is a hyundai excel x3 one and is cheap as chips too, you will need to remove the 2 hose metal thingy on the rail setup for a low mount turbo under the air filter.
