Nb turbo questions!
Hey guys, as you can see, I am a noob here on turbo miata. I always referenced this forum if I wanted to research certain things and read up on how to turbo a car, and i'm finally going to get into the forced induction gang :) I'm going to start piecing together a kit, and I wanted to just ask people who have better knowledge on the subject than me, if my 2000 SE miata (facotry 6 spd with LSD) is okay to handle my power goals. So ill tell you guys my goals and the known issues with my car, and just let me know what your thoughts are!
So, My goal with my miata is to get somewhere around 200 to the wheel, 210 ish to the max. I'm not super power crazy, i just want that magic 200 number. I'll probably go the megasquirt route as well so ill have to search up and study all the info on the forums about that as well. So now, here are the issues that i know about right now. 1. VERY SLIGHT leak from either my oil pump or my crank seal, I'll probably end up fixing that soon. 2. Here's what i mainly need your guys opinion on. Just for precautionary reasons, I did a compression test on my car, and I thought it would be okay, but being in the car world, Obviously somethings going to end up being a PITA. :) So here are my results (rounding to 5's) : Cyl 1 - 180 Cyl 2 - 150 (wet - 180) Cyl 3 - 175 Cyl 4 - 185 Soooo if i'm not mistaken, my ring is a little tired (worn out) My question is, is it bad right now? Is my lil 1.8 still boostable right now? :) Any advice/opinions/thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |
1) definitely not good
2) definitely still is, but also start saving for a rebuild |

I'd be comfortable with the compression numbers.
That said, you could always get a secondhand motor as you mentioned, refresh/build that one up, piece together a kit for it and swap. Maximizes final result and driving time. |
