NC Miata DIY Turbo
Hello everyone!
I have been lurking these forums for years and have decided to finally turbo my car! I know the NC is not very loved on here, but I've decided to do it anyways. I have made a list of what I'll be using. Parts List:
Also I have planned to get the oil feed from teeing the oil pressure sensor, would this be safe to do? |
SR20 turbo is to small.
What t25 manifold were you planning on getting? You should go with Romdrop over Versatuner. |
The manifold is a custom one. There's not a lot of options for the NC. This was the biggest hold up for starting it.
My goal is 220-230hp "reliably" what would be a better sized turbo? I have Versatuner on my car right now so it wouldn't be a extra cost. As far as I've seen, they offer about the same amount of features |
You will be hitting hot air right away with the sr20 turbo. I think a 2860 is generally the smallest garrett turbo that people use.
|
I think that would be a better size. Sadly that's a little out of budget, that looks like that will have to be first upgrade
|
Pulsar turbos are a bit more affordable than off the shelf Garret ones. Plenty of success stories out there using them
|
if you have a tight budget, turbocharging an NC is probably a bad idea.
that said, Lars is right: it's way too small and I'd even try some knockoff that's bigger than spend time fabricating a setup for such a small turbo. you will always want more boost. it's very addicting |

I'll be following your build, please post pics if you can as you go along. Been tempted to turbo an NC but like you already know there are very limited parts availability for those

Kraken makes NC turbo manifolds for SPS in Germany. Not sure if it's available to private customers but worth checking out. A 2860 as has been said is the bare minimum for the NC 2.0.

I will probably get this for the time being, then purchase a garret later on. Someone said pulsar was a good brand, I've never heard of them before. Sorry I don't know how to quote people yet, I don't make alot of posts |
I believe the Kraken top mount limits you in turbo sizing also. I think the GT3xxx sized turbos end up hitting the VC.
That ebay turbo looks alright. Will probably work great to start out on. |

I have just finished this turbo conversion on my Mazda MX5 MK3 NC 2.0 and have written a guide to show my mistakes and success (PDQ’s Guide’ish)I am happy to share. My car is RHD but a lot of the info is valid for LHD also.
ping me an email if you want a copy. pdq.mx5@gmail.com |

It's been awhile since I've had a update. I won't be able to get pictures of th manifold for atleast a week sadly. It's purchased, I just have to wait until I head down to okc again. I got my Turbo- - 2871 from Ebay. Not shaft play, the inside looks a little rough. I'm just gonna try to sand it down a bit before I put it on.
