need help-Tial 38mm WG .9 bar

guys please help me make a decision, not to sound like Hustler lol, but i need to buy a WG pretty soon like yesterday to finsih my turbo build and following lots of peoples threads etc. the tial 38mm seems like the way to go
a guy local to me is selling a new one for $190, he is legit and it is new for sure...so my question is, should i go for it, i know WOT sells them for slightly more, like $210 shipped but i do trust this guy as well, he got ripped of when he bought, paid close to $300 for it so he is loosing some money but thats not my problem, he didnt ask me when he was buying it i would have told him where to go
it has a .9 bar spring in it, thats 13psi, so i would have to buy a new spring, again based on what people here are doing the concensus seems that i would be ok with a small spring for fastest resonse, so a .250bar=3.6 psi which is the smallest i can buy
so please guys, give me some input...
thanks
Dan

Buy a new one with the right spring installed. You need a big vice or a clamp to swap springs. Not that big of a deal but is sort of a PITA. I'd go bigger than a 3.6 psi spring. What's the lowest boost you'll run?

A new spring is $35 so you will be paying more if you buy it for $190 and then pay another $35 for the spring plus you have to install it. Just buy one from WOT with the right spring installed in the first place.

Y8s runs the low 3.6 one and is now running 9 psi. I'm running around 7-8 psi on whatever spring is in mine. I wouldn't want one with a .9 bar spring you will never be able to run lower boost than that unless you swap out the spring. The springs are $30 no matter where you buy them, so that is something to consider. When ordering from WOT you get to pick your spring.

Zabac 01-02-2008 03:11 PM

that was my train of though, i just felt bad for the guy and tryed to help him out...but he burried himself, i didnt do it
13psi is not even an option for me yet, i plan on 5-6 low boost to 12psi max..
i just dont know what spring to get...i like the idea of light spring for quick resonse and i will run EBC with MS, so you guys are the experts here, help a brother out, lol
or should i get a bit heavier like the .4bar or 5.8 psi
i am under the impression that it would be better to run a spring a bit lighter than desired boost setting this way your not waiting for the spring to comress under pressure but you are telling it when to open and and the built up pressure is graeter than the resistance of the spring so it opens faster or more swift kind of
fast>slow...someone correct me where im wrong please

cjernigan 01-02-2008 03:13 PM

Get the .4 bar spring. The whole spring compression deal isn't that big of an issue, you'll be running EBC with MS anyway right? Running the amount of boost you want is though so get a light one like the .4 bar.

thanks a bunch, i think this sets me straight...i have my answer...thank you
WOT gets my monies...this also gives me a chance to get my flanges at the same time

TurboTim 01-02-2008 03:16 PM

Shoulda bought mine with the 4psi spring for $200 fool. I had the flanges too. oh well.

Zabac 01-02-2008 03:21 PM

why didnt i buy it? i know i wanted it, but then i forgot you had one...

Zabac 01-02-2008 03:24 PM

nevermind, i just read my PM's
i was broke, cause i wanted to buy the clutch...aha
but i reversed the order, WG first so i can start my damn build and the clutch next
i assume you dont still have it do you?

I don't think anyone here is qualified to tell you what wastegate spring to get on your car, with some mystical set up that you failed to share with us. :slap:

Changing the springs out isn't that hard. I opened mine up last weekend. Helps if you have a second person hold the housing together while you get a couple of the bolts in, but it wasn't hard at all. Maybe if you had a really stiff spring or combination of springs it would be a bit trickier. I already forgot what exact spring is in mine (and I only opened it up just to see which spring it was ), but it was like .5 bar or something.

0.250 3.626 Small Yellow 1.875 In
0.400 5.802 Small Red 1.875 In
0.500 7.252 Small Green 1.875 In
0.600 8.702 Small Blue 1.875 In

0.900 13.053 Large Green 2.360 In
1.000 14.504 Large Blue 2.360 In

not so mystical, lol
i plan to run 6-8 psi in low boost and 10-12psi in high boost
the hardware is not done, or started yet, but it is going to be a near equal length mani, t3/t4, 3" DP, VTA WG dumptube...does that help? or did you mean something totaly different?

I forgot you EWG Miata guys run wimpy boost. I had to swap a 15 psi spring into my Forester and its harder to get the top back together to get the bolts started. Two people was required.

If the OP is running min 6 psi, just get the 5.8 psi spring and be done with it.

There will be no response difference between the 3.X psi spring and the 5.X spring running 9 PSI or whatever.

I can get more for $200 shipped. I just don't have it in stock, it'd take a week or so.

Zabac 01-03-2008 10:33 AM

Tim, do you make the flanges for it, do you source those...

TurboTim 01-03-2008 11:19 AM

No i source those. ATP or vibrant or ebay or whomever, doesn't pay when they are only around $15-20 each. Life's too short.

y8s 01-03-2008 02:20 PM

i do run the wimpy spring but i have, I think, a green one that came with it for later when I want to shut frank up.

Zabac 01-03-2008 02:33 PM

i think im gonna go with the .4bar (6psi)
may upgrade to heavier later if/when i decide to run higher boost
