Need some experienced help on this one
 

I want to build a DIY turbo project for my 99, but have never built one before. I understand how turbo systems work, as I have worked many years on diesel turbo systems. However from what I can tell these are fairly different. I have an idea of what I need to do, but I was just hoping to lay out my list for you guys and you could tell me if I'm on the right track or should just never look under the hood of my car again.

what i have so far:
T25 off SR20, rebuilt running around 7-8 PSI
HKS Manifold
Apexi SAFC-2 w/Boomslang plug-n-play harness
24x6x3 Front mount IC with custom piping
custom exhaust w/cat and muffler
HKS SSQV BOV Reci.
Greddy Profec B Boost controller
Greddy Turbo timer


this is going to be something fairly basic. I dont want to have to upgrade injectors or the fuel pump, however if need be I will. I will also have a Boost, oil pressure and A/F Gauge mounted. later on down the road when i get a new tranny and rear end I will probably upgrade to a larger system, but foe now i BELIEVE this will work, but I need your input.

I believe the Apexi only modifies the airflow input to the ECU. Without having the ability to add to the injector duty cycle, or adding larger injectors, please be careful to see that you don't run lean as you get to the boost levels you want to achieve.

people have had issues with the s-afc on the NB cars... there are a couple threads on M.net regarding those issues...

I would reccomend an onboard wideband AF setup, as well as an egt for safety's sake

The Super AFC II (Air Flow Converter) is the industry standard for sub computer fuel control. The S-AFC II is designed to fine tune and "squeeze" power out of existing engine setups by allowing the user to modify the fuel curve with precision accuracy. Since the act of simply bolting on performance products does not make maximum horsepower, the S-AFC II allows the user to calibrate the fuel system in accordance with performance upgrades as they are installed. The AFC modifies the air flow meter/ pressure sensor signal voltage going to the factory ECU (Engine Control Unit) to change the amount of fuel injected. The S-AFC II utilizes a VFD (Vacuum Florescent Display) to display critical data in three different modes.

i wonder if you couldn't get similar results with a voodoo box or ELF?

Something like the Emanage allows you to do this plus add duty cycle to your injectors.

I dont have enough for Emanage, plus i think for what im doing right now it would possibly be a little much to deal with. what about the FM Voodoo box?

I hate to say this but the SAFC is NOT the industry standard.....The Greddy E manage is much better unit....maybe sell The SAFC and get a used E manage blue..The E manage will interface with your profec also to allow real fuel and timing tuning to be done....You have some good gear there which will be a good setup..it seems a waste to use such an inferior system for fuel control.

yeah... Management is one area that It's NOT ok to skimp on! Just imagine allyour hard work going down the tubes because the car ran lean..... not a pretty picture!

alright this pretty much convinces me, but i dont know anything about th emanage, where do i find out some information pertaining to what it does and how i would set it up for my car

search around in the emanage section of this site.... I spent alot of time there before I decided on my setup... which didn't happen to be an emanage (but my budget was higher than yours is) There are disadvantages to the emanage (injector sizing for example), but there are disadvantages to any aftermarket system..... for example, I lost OBDII with my Hydra Nemesis, and have to figure out a way around emissions...

SO does that mean I cant go up in injector size, or is it just to a certain limit?

With the emanage you can stay w/ the stockers or go up to a certain limit.

With the blue, most people choose from 290 - 370cc's.

FWIW I also started on Diesel Turbo Systems, 11 yrs...In an DS/GS shop...

i started as a freshman in high school and now im 20, so about 5-6 years

Grrr I went to a meet tonight and there were so many muscle heads that thought their shit was soooooo awesome. I want my turbo on! :skid:


also I think I have decided to upgrade my T25 to a Super T25 (T25 housings with T28 internals) for a little more kick in the pants :firedevil

werd. my friend picked up a used emanage for ~200 off ebay....thats with the timing and fuel harnesses.

the timing and fuel harnesses...do those not come with the boomslang harness?
