need some help with my turbo plans..

Well I was giving another turbo the other day and now I have a turbo choice to use, but the two turbo use two complete different manifold.

I have a 14B turbo off my old DSM that I had planned on using.

Now I have a T3 turbo that I was told come off a CA18, but can't be the stock turbo.

Here are the specs on the T3 turbo that I can find on it.
The turbo has AiResreach on the compressor and I been told it been rebuilt...Less play then the 14B

turbine:
a/r 46
5 bolt DP(ford design???) with the internal swing arm and 3 bolt DP flang
ID of the 3 bolt flange is 2"

Compressor:::
no markings
Inlet: OD 2.25"
Outlet OD 2"

So here comes the issue.

I had been planing on just getting the Ebay manifold and DP and bracing it and just using the 14B turbo.

Now I am thinking of getting a T3 manifold and trying to find a DP.

I am wondering what others would do, I am a college student so funds are low. So the more I send on the manifold and DP the longer it will be before I can get a FMIC and other upgrades.

Cost:

14B manifold and DP: 300
Oil Feed: Have
Oil Drain: Have
FMU: Have
Piping: 50-100
200 Misc cost

14B: $500-700

T3
Begi Mani:$389.00
Begi DP: $$325.00
Oil Feed: $15-30
Oil Drain: $20-30
Wastegate: 50-75
Piping: $50-100
Misc- $100

Total: $1000 maybe cheaper if i can find good deals..

What would you all do giving these choices.

BTW my first goal is to make 180-200 with my car with a power band been 3500 to redline.

Thank you

bryan

best thing to do with the T3 is to measure the inducer on the compressor side. then you can tell what size it is. anything under a 50 trim is a bit small.

the .46 quoted above, is most likey a .48 :gay:

yea your most likely right on the .48, looks like a 6 on the casting but it a used turbo.

can you point to how to figure out the trim on the compressor

Braineack 10-07-2007 10:18 AM

i just told you, measure the inducer. The exducer is always 60mm.

Ok so I finally got around to measuring

The inducer was 45mm.. which I did the math, from Garrett's site and that means the turbo is a 56 trim.

voila...id stick with the t3

sell the 14b to fund the T3 lol

Can you not use the oil feed/drain from the 14b on the t3?

What about a DP from Thomas? Thats what im looking to do since the T3 im wanting to use has a kinda funny w/g location. Figure that staying with a lower output probably is not going to make much diff. if you have the wastegate gasses dumping into the exhaust. And im sure you can find a t3 mani for a 1.6 for less then that? I dunno... im always looking at 1.8 stuff

I didn't think about talking to Thomas about an exhaust that may work out great.

As for the manifold, there not to many places that make 1.6 manifold and most are only T2. The cost in manifold does brother me that much, cause if I get a Begi, I know the it won't cause any problem and if it does, Corky seem like the person to help fix any issues with his parts.

I can't use all the parts from the 14B cause the Garrett require a few other parts first for oil lines, but I can get the parts for cheap and reuse the parts i do have.

The 14B will end up getting sold, but most likely traded for a CT26 for the supra cause the T3 was giving to my roommate but she can't use it.
