New BOV for FM II
Hey guys, well I have been having alot of problems with my GFB BOV so I am just going to get a new BOV. My current BOV doesnt have a flange that it mounts to the piping. It has a little protrusion with a rubber coupling that the bov kind of just sits in. The only BOV I have seen that seem to have this same/similar design are the RFL BOV's. Looks like they would fit right into the rubber coupler. Heres a link to the site.
http://www.turboxs.com/shop_prod.php?what_category=2 Was looking at the: ( I'm not trying to just get a really loud BOV, looks like these mount the same way as my GFB. ) The Blow Off Valve Type H-RFL or Blow Off Valve Type H or the Blow Off Valve Type S You guys think that, that will mount up in? The GFB BOV just really sucks. I have read from some other forums that alot of people have problems with the BOV and just end up getting a new one. |
I have a Turbosmart supersonic and a FM2 turbo kit.
The Turbosmart BOV is a perfect fit for the TB inlet pipe. If you can,try to get a better BOV.I have heard the TurboXS stuff is really not that good quality. |
turbo xs is junky,i had a rfl.that i made into the recirculating one.
im rocking a knock off hks,i like it.also its good for venting to the atmosphere because because of the valve diaphram. |

turbo xs is a POS for ricers that like loud noise. There are write ups on how to clean up the inside of the BOV that FM provides so that it does not stick, etc. Try that first.
IMHO HKS SSQBOV is the best thing out there. It even has a kit now to make it recirculate. |

Turboxs is a cheap copy of the Turbosmart BOV's. |

really? I'll check it out. Thanks for the help guys. That supersonic BOV will mount right up to the pipes little rubber cuppler?
The models that fit the FM pipe are:vee-port,plumb back, supersonic and megasonic. |
I don't see any prices on the turbosmart website. Help?

Pick up a cheap used WRX BOV and a TXS BOV adapter. You can run 18 psi no problem. It's basically a DSM BOV with a different flange. If you need to run more than 18 psi, you can do a simple mod or crush it in a vice.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WRX-A...spagenameZWDVW Then you just mount the WRX BOV on the flange and put the nipple of the adapter in your current hose. Frank |
Measure the coupler to see how big it is, it will probably be 25mm. If so here are some valves that will work:

I can give you a discount if you are interested. |
I have a RFL on my miata.. It's ok as far as performance goes.. It's awesome in the sound department.. I have a HKS SSQV on my Scion, and it's great all around..
I run it open.. |
Hey guys, well so today when I was driving, sounded like my bypass valve was finally opening completely. It still has compressor surge when I'm boosting less than 5 psi or so though. For some reason my turbo sounds a little bit quiter. IDK why it is probably just my imagination. So I guess I'm going to hold off on a new BOV for now.
Also I have heard that if you are running 12 psi + you should have a VTA not a recirc. valve. Is this true? |
I dont understand why that would be. For instance a blow-off valve's job is to release air in order to prevent compressor surge. More boost means more pressure to be released, however ,whether it is released back into the intake or into the atmosphere should not matter. Just my 2 cents.
|
You probably need to grease the valve.
|
Ya I need to take it apart and lube it up. 3 days ago is when my Bypass valve actually started opening up all the way and there was no compressor surge, but only boosting at anything higher than 5-6 psi. Also my turbo seems considerably quiter. Do you think my bypass valve could be slightly open? and is making me lose alittle boost?
|
Its possible. If it was stuck closed for awhile and it has now worked itself (somewhat) free it is definitely possible that it is binding at other points.
You can use the test outlined here: http://www.forgemotorsport.com/media...service(1).pdf Its for our valves but I don't see why it won't work on GFBs inferior tripe :) I didn't see a location in your profile, have you had a significant change in temperature recently? |
I'm on the outskirts of Houston and we have had a bit a temp change. It has been relatively cool for the last couple months and its warming up now.
