New DSM BOV Leaking?

I did a boost leak test and my old DSM BOV was leaking badly, so I ordered a new one from BEGI, installed it, and the new one is leaking too.

I'm hooking up my test fitting to the charge piping on the hot side of the intercooler and testing with the throttle held open. BEGI recommended testing it with the TB closed and a pressure source on the signal line to the valve, but I don't see how this is any different than testing with the throttle open (both ways the signal line is seeing pressure)

Any ideas?

If it matters, the valve is VTA

how much pressure are you testing at?

10psi

Anyone that has successfully tested a BOV... how did you have it setup?

Which style DSM bov? The first gen version is great (two bolt flange), second gen sucks balls. I've got a 1st gen, it's located between the IC and TB, vented, actuation line sourced from the intake manifold. A little noisy in vac, but these can hold 15-16psi stock, twice that if modified properly.

If you have the 2nd gen type, an upgrade is the Evo9 bov...installs the same way, but is metal not plastic, and it actually works.

It's this valve. BEGI claim it should hold up to 25 psi and VTA without problems.

Looks like an Evo8 valve in the pic. Is the body plastic or metal? As I mentioned above, the Evo9 valve is all metal and is supposed to be superior to the plastic version from the 8. There are adapters out there for adding a valve that bolts on (like Greddy or 1g DSM) if you can't get this one to work. And your testing method sounds fine to me, that's how it would work when you are driving the car under boost.

And sorry, I misread your post last night...thought you bought a DSM valve that was bad. That's what I get for posting at 2am.

Yea, it looks similar. Plastic lower body, metal top half.

I'd probably ditch it and get something that's all metal and proven to hold well. I picked up my 1g DSM valve at a junkyard for $10, and they can be found used all over the interwebz for $25-50. Buy this adapter and call it good.
