New to miata but not turbos but need guidance.

What's up guys. I'm currently helping a friend turbo his miata and need some direction. What are some links y'all can send me to help in the process.
We are looking at either the flying miata manifold (t2 flange) or a cast manifold from eBay (t3 flange). The goal isn't to make a lot of power about 225.
I've seen people use the dsm 450 injectors and have been reading abit ecus. Is the factory one not chipable like the Honda and dsm or is it just cheaper to run an aftermarket like megasqurt.

Saddly, You cannot chip the stock ecu like a honda. From what I know the most popular option for fuel management on the miatas is the Megasquirt. I run a voodoo box, cheaper option but it is limited. Depends what is your budget and goal. Do some search on the site, you will find some info. There is other stand alone ecus that can be used but I dont know shit about them. Good luck!

Let me tell you a little something about Miata's.

They're not DSM's or Hondas.

You've come to the right place. Tons of information already hashed out for you.

viperormiata 12-08-2014 07:08 PM

Fucking read the stickies

Nobody reads in DSM Hondaland. Their bros just tell them what some other guy they heard about did once. It's flatbrim osmosis.

Let me tell you something about plural words:

They aren't possessive.

I actually did read that's how I seen people using Honda and dsm ecu's. But the need to flame on somebody isn't needed. Maybe you should do a little reading. I do appreciate the ones who helped a little.

Nobody here does that jank-ass shit.

Here is the deal around here.Turbo Miata has been around for a long time (not me though, I'm still noob status for sure). These guys don't mess around with rigged stuff, and probably everything you can think of has been tried. Most likley you will not bring some ground breaking, cheap shortcut, this late in the game. They use track and race proven designs. This is why a lot of the info you will find here is very black & white. Your instant flamage was from not reading the stickies at the top, that had answers to most of your questions. You didn't see anything about using a Honda computer because that is probably an unreliable, headache causing, rig.

Quality Control Bot should make an appearance in this thread.

concealer404 12-09-2014 11:37 AM

You can do it our way, or the wrong way.

Lanceam24 12-09-2014 12:34 PM

You have to come here with an open mind, and read. I read tons of random build threads and junk here every day. If you are seriously interested in it, you can kinda get carried away with reading. You start researching one thing and just keep finding new bits of info you can use. Whatever you want to do to your car has been done and probably documented

This guy does :fawk:

However, this is not an endorsement of OP's musings.

:bowrofl:

<3

I think the bigger point was that nobody is going to walk him through that, but he should feel free to read any amount of stickies in these forums and end up with a nice T25 setup running Megasquirt. :)

You were so helpful with your post..

OP: Megasquirt is a great option for tuning Miatas (lots of vehicles, really). Check out DIYAutotune.com, after reading some stickies and threads around here. This site has a lot of good information, especially related to tuning a Turbo Miata. A T2 framed turbo is what I would focus on. T3's are more common in the Acura/Honda world, but those engines also are much more efficient and can support the higher CFM. I would stay T2 on a build like yours, for fast coming, linear boost.

No one here will spoon feed ya but getting you in the right direction never hurt!

Read and search if you have a question, lots of them have been answered before.

Cheers!
