New NC 1.8 build from Greece
3 Attachment(s)
After 5 NBfl's (the 3 were turbocharged) I decided to try my turbo luck on the NC building a custom kit from scratch using stock internals.
I am going to use a TB28 from Nissan GtiR equivalent to the gt2860rs and will try to stay to 0.6-0.7 bar. For fueling I am using the ev14 550cc injectors working great with the OEM ecu like the stock ones. Perfect idle and afrs. So far we are here. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1459767044 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1459767044 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1459767044 I hope to see more Turbo NCs soon. |
You need to get with Joe at Dynotronics for a 2.5 when you bust the 1.8 ;)
As far as I understand, the 1.8 is just a smaller-bored 2.0 block, so a 2.5 block is only a bit taller, so it would easily pass any visual inspection, if that is a problem where you are. I will be getting a 2.5 swap from Joe soon. The Fab9 EFR turbo kit is coming out soon and then you will definitely start seeing more turbo NC's. |
Well I am located in Greece and the 2.5 engines are extremely rare and expensive so I am not interesting in swapping.
We 'll see how it will handle the boost the poor 1.8 |

The manifold looks good! Are you going to shield the alternator at all?
Well, when the time comes, Joe has said that he can ship a built 2.5 to you for cheap, so you don't need to worry about 2.5's being rare and expensive where you are at. |

And here it is fitted on a spare engine in the shop

And there it begins.
Engine bay https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464134295 Here is one first test with some basic tuning and very safe ignition timing @ 0.4bar www.youtube.com/watch?v=hURqbGojKd0 And now MOAR boost @ 0.6bar but with still very safe afrs and ignition. |
A small update:
So far the stock ecu seems to handle boost great. The load measurements via MAF are precise and the afrs are solid! I even added the zeitronix map sensor to the original ecu with the proper calibration and now ecu can recognize boost succesfully! This is a very friendly to boost car and I am wondering why so few people have tried boosting it... The engine is responding great and I think that it can handle more torque than the stock BP or B6. Such a shame we have no feedback from other NC turbo owners. Any comments on the setup are highly appreciated! |

Because we are cheap and the majority of us don't want to spend the cash required to get a NC.

Here are dirty cheap. You can find for 5-6k€ the early ones.
Also the turbocharging is waaaay cheaper than the na/nb. There is no need for gauges wideband(stock NC sensor) and boost can be monitored via Torque app with a 7" tablet No need for extra piggyback or standalone ecu and the stock exhaust has a decent size of 2.36" (not ideal but not too bad) Also the stock FPump can handle 300hp so a walbro won't be necessary for anytime soon. I am also suprised from the clutch. After on month it is still holding strong, but I don't think it will last for much long. |
Today I upgraded to 3" maf intake. Wow what a difference! No more check engines at WOT and runs lovely at 15psi . Before I was maxing out the MAF at 12psi throwing a CEL.
It took me about 3 reflashes to get it right and now it runs like before. Also I managed to put some extra protection with richer afrs and safer timing in case of overboost and overheating , just in case. I took it for a mountain spirited ride and it was a blast to drive. I am very excited of the potentials of the stock ECU it gives really no limits to the tuner. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e08ebf1b35.jpg |
are you self tuning it? what with? ecutec?
