a new style intercooler?

yeah so i was chillin with my buddy on 420 and noticed that "cooling" his pipe did when i was smokin out of it. (hot air passed completely through water and makes this sick bubbling sound) I was wondering is there someway to adapt that to a car? seems like a super efficent way to cool the incomming air if it completely passed through water. could you make like a u bend in the intake plumbing (where the normal intercooler would go) and fill it with water? would your engine ingest water? i heard water absorbs a lot of heat so i was think it would be a hella sick setup. any thoughts? i want a car that bubbles like that!

vacuum

kotomile 04-26-2007 03:01 AM

puff puff PASS

boostinsteve 04-26-2007 03:26 AM

I don't think that it would be a very efficient way to get it done. Just switch to WI because that is just going to do that to a lesser extent, if the motor doesn't suck up all of the water.

I believe Jackson Racing do a water to air intercooler where the charge air flows through a pipe surrounded by a sleeve which has water circulating through it - a similar process in its application, but the charge and the water are separate.

He isn't talking air to water guys... he's talking air through water.

Put down the waterpipe and step away from the computer...

cjernigan 04-26-2007 08:39 AM

Pick it pack it fire it up?
Hit's from the bong?
Sounds like an intake restriction to me.

SloS13 04-26-2007 08:41 AM

even if it did work, the water would heat soak horribly bad.

jsisco 04-26-2007 10:02 AM

Major air restriction. Try smoking your pipe with out the water and it will be alot easier to smoke (hotter though). With the water there is alot more puffing.

On the note of Jackson's air to water check this out...

Probably could put something together like this for cheaper then you could buy that crap from jackson. And it may cool better. Lindsey Racing, the company that sells these, puts them on their 951 (turbo 944) with the air to air intercoolers. Just replace the long runs of aluminum pipe with these heat pipes.

you know what would be easier.... a FMIC.

nahhhh. I dont think so.

I think the turbo would have a hard time pushing air through the water. Ever done a belly flop?

nester 04-26-2007 10:50 AM

lmao

Mach929 04-26-2007 11:13 AM

holy shit that's funny

Braineack 04-26-2007 11:20 AM

you gotta applaud the creativity

miatamania 04-26-2007 11:44 AM

thats a great idea in theory..., keep smoking and I bet you'll get a great idea one of these days that we can actually use.

lmao @ y8s

cueball1 04-26-2007 12:03 PM

Dude, what if we could run our Miata's on solid fuel? It'd be a great way to get rid of stink weed with all the stems and seeds in it. The external wastegate could dump right into the passenger compartment. Whenever you want a hit just get on the boost.

jwarriner 04-26-2007 12:51 PM

"No officer, I'm not smoking weed, I'm cooling air charges."

samnavy 04-26-2007 01:14 PM

Sounds like a good idea to me... but use beer instead of water.

Al Hounos 04-26-2007 01:18 PM

it would sound pretty cool....
